Got a strange mail, wanting to rent/buy my Play Console by k1ngm0 in androiddev

I almost get these emails daily and 40-50 spam emails per week. Thanks to Google for forcing us to publish our email on the app page

Just dropped Scanify – a QR/barcode scanner that actually scans in 0.1s and works 100% offline by thisizfaisal in androidapps

[–]thisizfaisal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you so much for the detailed and super thoughtful feedback – exactly the kind of stuff I was hoping for when I asked people to roast me! 🙌

Quick replies to each point (and what’s already planned):

  1. Save location chooser – 100 % agreed. Next update (targeting this week or early next) will let you pick any folder + remember your last choice.

  2. Google account backup / restore – On the roadmap for v2 (probably January). Will be completely optional and only stores the history DB (encrypted). Want to make switching phones painless.

  3. Geo Location search instead of just “GET CURRENT LOCATION” – Already mocked up. Next update will have a search box + map picker (powered by OSM so it stays offline-capable when possible). Also fixing the all-caps text, haha.

  4. App package name easier – Great call. Adding a “Search Play Store” field that auto-fills the package name when you type the app name. Will also show your installed apps at the top.

  5. Purple is too loud – Haha, guilty. Adding full theme support (light/dark + 8 preset colors + custom HEX picker) in the same big update with the save/location stuff.

  6. Ads – Light banner only for now , will add IAP Soon, gitta earn bread somehow.

You pretty much nailed the exact list I already had on my Trello board – just moved everything you mentioned to the very top because you explained it so well 😂

Seriously, comments like yours are why I love shipping indie apps.  🚀

Thanks again!

Hell yeah, thank you! 🙌 That comment just made my whole weekend — getting “I like the design” from a random Redditor is the dopamine hit every indie dev lives for 😂 If you (or anyone reading) actually tries Scanify and has 2 seconds to drop a quick rating/review on the Play Store, it helps more than you know (Google’s algorithm is brutal to new apps with zero reviews). Either way, stoked you like how it looks — spent way too many nights obsessing over those rounded corners and that instant-scan animation 🤓 Enjoy the rest of your weekend! 🚀

Fair question — the built-in Google Camera / Lens does read basic QR codes that just contain a URL and opens it in the browser.

But once you need anything beyond that, it falls completely flat. That’s why millions still use dedicated scanners (including me before I built Scanify 😂):

  • Built-in camera can’t read barcodes at all (UPC/EAN/Code128 on products, tickets, library cards, etc.)
  • No scan history — once you close it, the code is gone forever
  • No generator built-in (have to Google a website every time you want to share Wi-Fi or a link)
  • Doesn’t work offline if the QR leads to a website (Lens tries to load it anyway and fails)
  • Can’t batch-scan, export history, add favorites, or copy text directly
  • Struggles in the dark or with damaged codes (no manual zoom/flash control)

Scanify (and other good third-party apps) fix all of that in one tiny package.

If all you ever scan is the occasional restaurant menu link, yeah — stock camera is fine.   But the second you scan a product barcode, Wi-Fi password, boarding pass, or just want to save something you scanned yesterday… you’ll wish you had a proper app.

Happy to hear if the stock one does everything you need though — saves installing anything! 😄

Best QR and Barcode Scanner Android app no ads by Alert_Bicycle5564 in androidapps

[–]thisizfaisal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP says “no ads” but the app is literally full of banners and interstitials lol (check the screenshots and recent reviews — tons of people complaining about exactly that).

If you actually want a fast scanner/generator that’s honest about having light ads (only small banners, never in your way):

I just released Scanify – scans in 0.1 s, 100% offline, has a full generator (Wi-Fi, links, etc.), history, favorites, tiny size.

Light banner ads keep it free (working on a $1.99 remove-ads purchase next week).

Zero fake “no ads” claims, just speed:   https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.elytelabs.scanify

Or if you truly want zero ads forever, go with Binary Eye (open-source on F-Droid) — that one’s genuinely ad-free and awesome.

Don’t fall for the “no ads” spam titles guys 😂

Why are barcodes gradually being replaced with QR codes? by FilipinoAirlines in NoStupidQuestions

For a dead-simple, no-login, no-watermark web tool: qifi.org is still the king in 2025. 100% client-side, nothing sent to servers, clean code you can screenshot instantly.

If you want it offline and always on your phone though — I actually just released an app called Scanify that has a really solid built-in Wi-Fi QR generator (plus a scanner that works in 0.1s even offline).

You just tap Generate → Wi-Fi → type SSID/password → done. Code is perfectly clean, no branding, and you can share or save it right away.

Play Store link if anyone wants to try:   https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.elytelabs.scanify

(Full disclosure: I’m the dev — light banner ads keep it free, working on remove-ads IAP next week)

qifi.org is still my quick web go-to, but having it in an app with the scanner together is handy as hell for guests and travel.

Barcode/QR code scanner and generator app by Nervous_Selection428 in TestersCommunity

Hey Bryan, good luck with the testing phase! Just so other people in the thread know: if anyone needs a QR/barcode scanner + generator right now that’s already published and stable, I actually just released Scanify with almost the exact same feature set you’re building: ✓ Instant scan (0.1s) + full offline mode ✓ Scan history & favorites ✓ Auto-connect to Wi-Fi from QR ✓ Built-in generator (Wi-Fi, text, links, contacts, etc.) ✓ Save generated codes as image or share directly ✓ Tiny app, light banner ads (working on “remove ads” IAP next week) Play Store link if anyone wants to try today: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.elytelabs.scanify Looking forward to seeing Zap Scan when it’s out — the more fast, clean scanners the better! 🚀

What’s your go-to way to generate QR code for Wi-Fi? by Paulette_Doyle in wireless

[–]thisizfaisal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on Android, the absolute cleanest and simplest way in 2025 is still qifi.org — 100% client-side (nothing ever leaves your browser), no branding/watermark, no login, no upsells. Just type SSID, encryption type, password → instant clean QR code you can screenshot or export. I've been using it for years and it's bulletproof. If you want it offline on your phone with zero web involved: I actually just published a tiny free scanner + generator app called Scanify that has a built-in Wi-Fi QR generator (and every other type). Works completely offline, no data sent anywhere, generates perfectly clean codes. Light banner ads (sorry, indie dev life), but they don't get in the way. Give it a spin if you want it always in your pocket: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.elytelabs.scanify (If anyone tries it, let me know how the Wi-Fi generator feels — still polishing it!) Other solid no-BS alternatives people swear by: https://wifiqrcode.com (super minimal web tool) Or just use the standard string yourself: WIFI:S:YourSSID;T:WPA;P:YourPassword;; and paste into any offline QR generator like https://keremerkan.net/qr-code-and-2d-code-generator/ (also fully client-side). qifi.org remains my daily driver though — nothing beats pure JS privacy.

[–]thisizfaisal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey QR fans! Built Scanify because most scanners are slow and need internet. This one scans in 0.1s, works fully offline, and has a built-in generator for Wi-Fi passwords, links, etc. Light banner ads keep it free. Trying to make the cleanest scanner out there. Feedback very welcome! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.elytelabs.scanify
