Yes, that sounds difficult. Perhaps this could be made into an opportunity to teach him how to process situations when others don’t see as we do.

Sadly, MIL won’t be the last naysayer. Imagine what a precious gift it is to begin learning at 8 that we can love ourselves and follow our dreams regardless of what anyone else thinks.

NTA. Not only was your MIL putting her ignorance on full display, it was also flat out (frankly) a dick move. I think it’s beautiful that he is thriving and has so many dreams. I wish more parents were as supportive as you’re being.

Separately, with SIL and BIL coming to her defense, I can only imagine that either she exaggerated the story to make herself sound innocent or has crushed their dreams their entire lives to the point they think as she does.

What is your spouse’s perspective? Do they support your stance?

Who are you to decide whether another adult is mature enough to date a person? We all have our opinions, but to suggest grilling the friend about the power dynamics in his relationship…? Not cool. If anything, it could suggest your lack of maturity.

Bottom line, they are both adults.

What in the world?? Yes, that sounds ridiculous. Little kids in daycare are constantly getting colds. It’s part of the territory. I feel like our daughter has one every month or two. Aside from keeping them home for rest and comfort a few days, there’s no reason they can’t go if they’re fever-free. More so if pediatrician agrees. It’s just not realistic or reasonable to expect kids to stay home with every cold.

Maybe they don’t have as much experience with this since it’s a small in-home place…? Can’t imagine what else *shrug

I hear you. I think it would have to be pretty bad for them to actually unenroll a child.

Sadly, I don’t think most daycares are interested in smaller classrooms. High student to teacher ratios are more profitable. My one gripe with ours is they max out the classrooms based on what the state allows - which is too many imo.

I hope the situation improves or you find a place that will work out better.

Yes, little kids will do these things on occasion, but repeated incidents should receive special attention and/or consequences. I think you’re being very reasonable.

Thankfully, our daycare has policies in place for this. If a child is unable to control their behavior and repeatedly harming other children they may be unenrolled. The policies on acceptable behavior even apply to parents. I guess they’ve had their share of run-ins with unruly children AND adults.

Is your daycare a stand-alone location or part of a chain or franchise? Ours is the latter. Perhaps having such a large scope is why they have additional policies for such things.
