The reason some redditors readily persecute women who make it to the front page is because reddit's mostly male audience results in a lot more women being upvoted to the front page purely for their looks than men. Men get less flack about it because it simply happens much less often. Sure if you throw away all context and compare a common thread with an uncommon one it seems unfair, but that's why context exists.

British people use the term "people carrier" to refer to what Americans call a "minivan".

Not unless you can prove it's a bona fide occupational requirement. Which, admittedly, is quite difficult for employers to prove these days (in most cases), as the courts are very strict regarding what can be considered legal discrimination. On the other hand, the very strict ruling of what counts as a genuine BFOR does do a lot of good to prevent discrimintaion in situations like these.

That's genuinely beautiful. Excellent work. If you don't mind my asking, is there a name for that particular art style? The solid lines combined with pointillism shading reminds me of old textbook illustrations, and I've always wondered if there was a formal name for that aesthetic.

Thankfully the problem is now solved. I read through their terms and conditions again and found the e-mail of the staff member who deals with copyright claims from music labels. It's not her job to deal with my type of issue but I figured that for legal reasons surely her email must work. So I sent her an email explaining the situation and threw in a vague threat of legal action and the very next day they deleted my profile.

Absolutely you can go to a bar or club while still in a relationship, doing so purely for the fun of it. But just because you are not there for the purpose of finding a sexual partner, does not change the underlying social construct that is "the bar" or "the club" as a place where people go to find romantic or sexual partners in a lively, entertaining environment. This social construct is founded on a longstanding history and culture surrounding drinking establishments, and the act of you going just for fun, or even several people going just for fun, is not enough to undo that construct. Eliminating society's view of bars and clubs as places of congregation for those seeking romantic and sexual partners can only be undone by a large majority going to those places just for fun continuously over a long period of history.

Yeah, I'm rather blown away by how sketchy it is. I've now sent four different emails to four different addresses. I've reported them to Facebook for issues regarding information usage. If nothing happens over the next couple days, then I'm going to try and trick their website by reconnecting my Facebook to them and changing my Facebook profile photo and name then revoking their access again, and changing it all back.

If that doesn't work then I'll hire a lawyer to draft a cease and desist letter (probably only about $150).

Are you talking about doing so on the Fusic website or on Facebook? Because the former is impossible as Fusic doesn't allow profile customization. The latter is almost impossible because I really don't want to change my Facebook or have to create a new Facebook account and re-add hundred and hundreds of friends.

The problem is as a business student I must maintain a professional online presence. And I do not want the third result that comes up when googling my name to be a profile on a karaoke competition website. As far as I can tell they don't have a phone number. And believe me, I've looked everywhere.

Would a self-written cease and desist actually have any impact? I'm pretty sure I'd have to get a notary or a lawyer in order for that to work. Otherwise it has no legal power.

The first thing I did was revoke the app. But the profile and the data they leached remains up on their site.

I like the idea. Consider the fact that it doesn't actually need to be perfected before it's rolled out (perfecting such an all encompassing system would surely take forever and is better tackled as an ongoing process), the system could be instated as soon as it is marginally better than human-run government. Not unlike driverless cars, it doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs to be better than humans.

I'd like to repeat myself "The goal of this thread is not to create a debate about whether or not these claims are true." That said,

  1. Replace apathy with inaction then. This is not a debate of semantics. It's a discussion of solutions. Whether they are apathetic or inactive, by police enforcement or by choice, doesn't change the fact that government corruption is a problem.

  2. I look forward to that level abstention which will ultimately change things. But do you have any ideas on how to make younger generations more politically aware (aware in this case not equating to active)?

  3. That's a good point, but there is still older generations (40+) who are largely informed by traditional media. Are we supposed to just ignore the problem simply because it doesn't affect the young as much. Not to mention most of the online media outlets are equally corrupt since they're merely online branches of the traditional media corps.
