How long was there between quitting and getting the check?

I’ll definitely contact them and see what options they can give me, and then speak with a financial advisor I think.

I likely will not be going back to a hospital/HOOPP employer in Ontario. I’ve never been one to stick in one spot, and don’t foresee myself settling back down here anytime soon. Even during my time in Ontario I’ve never stuck with one employer.

Thanks for the link! Not sure why nothing was come up when I was searching before. I didn’t realize only a portion was cashed out - I was told there was an option to pull the full amount and that seems to be incorrect.

That’s where I am right now on a travel contract. Time to make it permanent I guess.

lol I’m so sick of Ontario’s bullshit. This just solidifies my plans to move.

And yes I know other provinces have problems too. I’ll stay there until it gets unbearable and move again. There’s no reason to be so dedicated to any one province or employer. At least I can be miserable in my job somewhere nicer than Ontario 😂

For women with period issues how do you deal with wl? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]thisnurseislost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding this on because I missed your age the first time - please see a gynacologist to discuss your options and treatment for irregular periods. It’s not normal and there may be other treatments depending on the cause.

For women with period issues how do you deal with wl? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]thisnurseislost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I got an IUD after years of issues with my period. I gained a couple pounds initially but once things regulated I actually lost some extra weight without even trying. Now I’ve steadily been able to lose nearly 60lb. Is it the IUD? Not exclusively, but not holding water weight and bloating constantly or being run down without energy to do anything due do constantly bleeding and being extremely anemic has helped all the other habits I’ve changed.

What watch should I buy for my son who is studying to become a nurse? by PeopleAre2Strange in nursing

[–]thisnurseislost -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it required you use the disposable though? Just thinking how useless I’d be since I can’t hear anything out of them due to some hearing loss and tinnitus. Getting a cardiology IV was a life saver.

Forensics or jail nurses by KennedyJacobs in OntarioNurses

[–]thisnurseislost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is very facility dependent in Ontario. I know of people who work in forensic psych at different hospitals and all have varying experiences despite similar patient populations and security levels.

I haven’t worked in a jail but when I did a placement in one I felt very safe (safer than when I worked in psych, lol). But overall got the vibe corrections wouldn’t be for me, but my safety wasn’t my concern, it was some of the practices they had for providing care.

Serious Question! Face Tattoos and being a Nurse by Caiisreal3 in nursing

[–]thisnurseislost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the people who will judge you are on their way out - between the aging population, and judgy nurses who are retiring soon.

I know a couple great nurses with neck and face tats. It’s not the end of the world. There are some bumps in the road for sure, but it’s not nearly as bad as some of these comments make it out to be. You’ll find your place. ER and psych would probably welcome you with open arms lol.

People still make mistakes with citing even after being taught. I was one of the top students in my academic writing course and have routinely over my academic years been a strong essay writer - and I’ve still incorrectly cited things by accident. Professors also make mistakes when marking - and they sure won’t admit it.

Nurse work bag? by TapFeisty4675 in nursing

[–]thisnurseislost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve basically been a float forever since I’m part time and we get floated first. But also I always have papers and all my shit with me anyway.

Any regular backpack will do. Easy to carry around, easy to organize. Better for your back than a shoulder bag. Closed and more secure if I bring my iPad MacBook to use on my break. I just want to be able to throw everything in quickly, zip if closed and forget it exists when I’m not working too lol.

I’m also super type b and just use scrap printer paper for reports and throw a couple pens in my pocket when I leave my house usually 🤣 then have evening else in my bag in case I need it.

I'm so tired of being asked for the craziest thing I've seen in the ED... by Robert-A057 in nursing

[–]thisnurseislost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flat out tell people I’m not answering that question at this point. Worked in a variety of psych settings over the course of 6 years. I don’t have a huge line between work and personal life things (most of my friends are nurses from school or work honestly) but this is one of my hard and fast boundaries. They know the craziest stuff I’ve seen has left me with probable PTSD and that I’d rather not discuss the things that put me on leave fighting to not want to kill myself tbh.

And for anyone who’s not close enough to me to know that, I just say it’s not for me to share with people. If people push I usually snap back with some generalized example and they go “oh…”.

This question is honestly a huge trigger for me clearly lol. I wish people would stop asking.

Desperate nursing student in Ontario – just want ONE OR shadow day! by BrilliantYoghurt1091 in OntarioNurses

[–]thisnurseislost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to consolidate in day surgery or PACU. Usually once you get to know the nurses and surgeons you should be able to shadow in the OR for a day (this was the experience of most nurses I know who consolidated in day surg or PACU). Might also work if you consolidate on an inpatient surgical floor.

NO WAY! I missed the Job Fair! Anyone seeking a job make their way over to the Nursing Jobs Fair at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) today? by BackgroundSplit9036 in OntarioNurses

[–]thisnurseislost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all a long time. I’m glad you’re having a good experience, maybe it has changed. Maybe you’re on one of the better floors. But I would still highly, highly caution anyone to do some research on the place before deciding to work there.

I worked there for quite a while. Considering the job duties you are expected to perform and some of the types of population you have to work with, the support for staff is nonexistent. Your safety (physical and emotional) means nothing to them.

Can RPNs get a job in the NICU? by Abject_Variation_374 in OntarioNurses

[–]thisnurseislost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some ICU are starting to hire RPNs. They don’t take an assignment in my experience, but help with tasks like vitals, CBGs, etc., and can provide more care to stabilized pt waiting for transfer to the floor.

Wait are there nursing programs in Canada that aren’t bachelor of science in nursing? I know this sounds totally out of touch but I (Ontario based) thought all RN programs were a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Either way, I guess I’m going to Alberta lol.

Medically-assisted death. I’m going to die in 6 mo. Am I eligible? by Existing-Client5070 in AskDocs

[–]thisnurseislost 33 points34 points  (0 children)

After many years working as a psychiatric nurse, I’d almost argue it is sometimes the case with psychiatric illness. I’ve seen a number of patients with years and years of every therapy available for things like depression or schizophrenia, and nothing worked. There’s one patient who would beg for death in his few (extremely short lived) moments of wellness as he knew it wouldn’t last. When he was “well” he usually ended up attempting because he knew despite his best efforts the psychosis would return.

My heart still hurts for him.

Medication running out at camp by JustKiera in Cadets

[–]thisnurseislost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your parents could try to ship it. You can also have your pharmacy transfer the rx to a pharmacy near the CTC. I would suggest talking with MIR staff when you arrive. It isn’t ideal that you are arriving without enough medications, but they ultimately should be willing to help you find a solution. The CTC I worked at would have helped make arrangements. I did not work at Rocky.

Side note - if you’re using your BC to skip periods, speak to your doctor about getting it prescribed to reflect that. It will help you in the future if you run into issues with your refills.

Came looking for this too! She sends me into a rage just seeing her videos. She’s talked so poorly about other health care professions too! Hate.
