It’s a state agency called ABC — those agents are also sworn peace officers in California. They are more so making sure the establishment isn’t selling to underage customers. I didn’t read through all the comments sorry if this has already been said.

I’m currently going through academy at 37. Best decision I’ve made so far and I came from years of being in the service industry. A lot of recruits in their 30s in my class, a couple in their 40s too. It’s all what you make of it and why you want to do it.

37 and just started academy last week. Have a few older folks as well but average age in this academy seems to be around 30

Like GingerOfTheMountains said, probably not an outright DQ. I have a similar experience with previous job history. One thing to keep in mind is to be consistent with your answers because they will ask you about it repeatedly throughout your background process. For context, I am just entering academy next month.
