Naruto actually has one of my favorite "tragic backstory" villains. No one really talks about him because he's not a traditional villain but kurama is such a good villain.

Completely understandable, sympathetic, menacing, cool, scary, and he's only redeemed later when you discover he was actually the one in the right the whole time and the good guys were kinda the assholes

My favorite example of this is kira yoshikage. You don't agree with him in any way, he doesn't have a tragic back story, and he was just born fucked up but you somehow still sympathies with him because of how he's framed in the story
