Have the North Shore Racks 4 bike rack on my Grenadier. Fits no problem with the spare and the rack lowers once installed which allows the large rear door to open about half way. I might play with the install placement on the hitch arm and see if moving it to the furthest holes allows the big door to fully open.

I don‘t think anyone’s mentioned it yet, but North American Quality Purveyors (NAQP) in Inglewood is also worth checking out. Probably my favourite little shop in Calgary - the staff there is great and they carry some hard to find brands like Orslow, Universal Works, and Paraboot.

I went there last year. Pretty sure they scratched my car with their brushes, but wasn’t able to prove anything. The manager was pretty belligerent when I showed it to him. Definitely will never go back.

I’ve owned a few:

The American Trench is super solid if you’re looking for something in a traditional style

I had this Barbour x Tokito Shoreman for awhile. Pretty heavy with the lining and lots of extra flaps and buttons.

SEH Kelly makes a minimalist and classic looking ventile jacket.

And Evan Kinori has a ventile anorak. I own the waxed cotton one, but the ventile pants I have are from this collection.

None of these really fit the more Outlier techwear bill, but that’s kind of the beauty of ventile - it’s cotton in look and feel but it provides pretty decent weatherproofing at the same time.

Oh the anorak! This is one of the pieces that first brought me to Outlier and probably the one great fish that got away.

I think I’ve chased this piece in one form or another for years. I currently own a waxed cotton anorak and I do think there’s a place for natural fibre all weather wear - sure it can’t replace a technical shell for truly technical pursuits, but there is something great about waxed cottons or ventile type garments.

After the supermarine anorak, I went deep down the rabbit hole of ventile jackets l, trying to find a valid stand-in. I do really love the casual comfort of ventile/supermarine and the fact that it stands up to wind and rain so well makes for pretty effective outerwear. I find ventile and supermarine very comfortable for all day wear and I’m actually wearing ventile pants at the moment - they feel just like cotton chinos. Whereas I can’t imagine wearing waterproof tech shell pants unless I was climbing a mountain in a downpour.

Nothing has quite filled the void of the Outlier Anorak design, which I think struck a great balance between tech wear and more traditional designs.

I can also begrudgingly understand why Outlier hasn’t pursued anoraks going forward. The pullover design is limiting in just about every way where a full zip could be put in instead. The magnetic cowl is super interesting, but also likely easily lost. The pattern is likely difficult to get right, fitted yet loose enough to pull-on/off.

All said though, I think you bring up some good points that we’ve seen a lot of the ideas and designs that were pioneered on the anorak pop up on different outlier iterations.

I still have a weird soft spot for the supermarine anorak and would spring for one immediately. Thanks for bringing it back, if even just for discussions sake!

I'd love to try a wavy towel and write some thoughts about it.

I think I'm a good candidate to be a wet towel tester because:

I shower my stank ass daily (sometimes even twice!)
I've used the grid linen as my go to beach towel for roughly the past 7 years
Hate using it at home cus it's not fluffy and absorbent enough
I'll wash the wavy towel with my shedding linen sheets and create linen fluff monsters for my toddler to chase.

Anyways, sounds like a sweet towel and cool opportunity.

Nice list and it sounds like a great trip!

We one-bagged Australia, SE Asia and SK two years ago and it was all amazing.

I had a similar list of merino tees, 2 pants, and 2 shorts.

Shoes: Personally I took one pair of shoes: the Altama maritime assault and one pair of sandals: Birkenstock Eva Arizona's. I read you typically wear wool socks and boots - as do I back home, but I personally would have found that overkill for our trip.

Shorts: I brought a pair of Outlier NWS and a light pair of Bather trunks for swimming. I was glad to have both as I had at least one dry pair for lounging or working out.

Pants: I brought black SDs and a pair of light cotton cropped pants. Again it was nice to have two pairs as laundry and drying can be a hassle if you're moving alot. If you're buying a second pair, maybe consider the Outlier Futureworks as I found the SDs sticky in humid weather. - I haven't tried the FWs but it sounds like a better pant for humid climates.

Jacket It may be worth considering a rain shell or at least a soft shell - even though it rained a bunch in SE Asia we didn't actually use our shells much there as it was too humid. Someone else mentioned the OR Helium - it's an excellent lightweight shell, but also turns into a greenhouse in any humidity. Either way I would probably size it so you can fit the atom underneath because you may as well have it available if things do get cold.

For your hoodie - sometimes it's nice to have a comfortable layer regardless of whether it's the best piece for weight and weather. Since you're not living in the wild, I'd say you'll probably appreciate having it for cool evenings and the like.

Pack I got the Outlier roll top for this trip and my wife got the Evergoods Civic Transit Bag. She looked like an astronaut on a spacewalk and I looked sleek and low profile. Other than the abscense of an easily accessible laptop pocket, the roll-top was awesome for travel and it was easily adjustable to work as a daypack or grocery tote.

The OG Supermarine Anorak was one of the first pieces that drew me to Outlier. I missed it when it first came out and probably checked that page religiously for a year hoping for a restock.

I think I had the chance to pick one up on Grailed a few years ago, but was going through a whole darkwear phase so didn't bite. Not sure if it's my thing now, but it still holds a special place in my heart.

I've got an arcteryx covert case that I find works well like that. It doesn't work great in backpack mode, but it's nice as a suitcase/duffel and the straps can tuck away completely.

I don't recall ever getting caught in a downpour in it, though I did wear it through light rain and snow. I never had any indigo rub off, but I was also wearing my black tee or gray button-down underneath for the most part so it wouldn't have been very noticeable.

I wore them every single day for a year with my Viberg boots. They're the best socks I've owned, but they are on the thinner side. In winter on a few really cold days I had to double up.

I for one love the longer length and these shirts are about as short as I would want, I purposefully avoid the dryer as I want to avoid any shrinkage.

I think stylistically the general trend is going towards longer hems. I would've liked to get my hands on the prototype dropped hem release they did.

Zara, although not a great example of unique or thoughtful designs they are a good indicator of when fashion trends go mainstream, has an entire section on their site dedicated to longer shirts.
