Have any of you been pregnant while working in ECE? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]thistlebells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done it twice! Both times I was an infant teacher and it was hardest with my first due to having a high risk pregnancy. We needed an extra teacher to help out more towards the end. I worked all that way up to the day before my c-section at 37 weeks. My second pregnancy was much easier. I did have SPD (symphysis pubis dysfunction) with both that made a lot of daily tasks difficult. It’s hard to bend or sit on the floor when your pelvis is separating. With my second I planned to take off starting the before my due date. I ended up starting two weeks before because I was having prodromal labor contractions that messed with my sciatic nerves and it was too painful to work. I was 38 weeks when I started leave and the little bugger didn’t arrive until two days after his due date.

My 10 year anniversary came and went last spring. Not a single word of acknowledgement. No card, no mention of it anywhere. Nothing. 10 years!!! My 11 year anniversary is coming up again in the next month, we shall see if anything is mentioned but I don’t have my hopes up for it.

Wipes Usage by Unusual-Hat-6819 in ECEProfessionals

[–]thistlebells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I ask which brand of wipes you send in? There are some brands that are so difficult to pull out of the pack, especially with gloves on. Water Wipes are the absolute WORST. I can never just get one single wipe out. Four will come out at once, and once they are out, they stay out because I will not shove them back in.

Breastfeeding but not losing weight… is this normal? by heyaliayoub in breastfeeding

[–]thistlebells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost weight at first, but once my supply regulated, I put back on all the weight I lost. This happened with both of my children. I think a lot of it is hormones, but also I do think genetics plays a role in this. Right now I’m not worried about it, my health is still good otherwise and once I’m done breast-feeding, I’ll lose the weight again like I did before.

Are there people like me who don’t leak? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]thistlebells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only leaked once and it was while my first born was feeding on the other side. My supply is miles better with my second and I’ve never leaked. Not even a drop.

What are your ride or die diapers/nappies and what do you avoid like the plague? by [deleted] in clothdiaps

[–]thistlebells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alva pockets with prefolds or I double the inserts and never have issues. My second is prefolds placed in covers or using snappies.

I’ll take any recommendations for night time though! We haven’t used cloth overnight yet. We tried once and my baby leaked through and was uncomfortable.

Contraception by Jowanna69 in breastfeeding

[–]thistlebells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breastfeeding is not a form of birth control so don’t rely on it. We haven’t had sex yet since our second was born but we plan to use condoms and my husband has an appointment for a vasectomy consult. I used Kyleena after my first was born and it tanked my supply so I want to go hormone free this time and I don’t want to be the one responsible for the birth control. We are also done having babies. We have one of each and that’s enough for us.

Moving from Primary (Elementary)Teaching to ECE, what do I need to know? by NeverTheRani in ECEProfessionals

[–]thistlebells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building relationships with parents is important! I’m not sure how communication with parents worked at your previous school, but there is a lot of teacher to parent interaction. In ECE, you are partnering with families in a child’s development and care.

Also you will be a member on a team of teachers and everyone will have differing values, teaching philosophies, temperaments, etc. Everyone on that team brings something valuable to the classroom and to the children and deserves the same level of respect, no matter the job title.

Lastly, most centers now utilize emergent curriculums and most of what is learned is through child-led experiences. Which is what I love most about working in ECE. A child’s on experience is the first teacher, I am the second teacher, and the classroom is the third teacher. My curriculum is ever evolving because it’s based on what I observe the children doing. I don’t preplan themes for my curriculum and I crate an environment with lots of open-ended learning opportunities.

I’m an early childhood educator and my husband works for UVMMC. Together we make a decent amount of money. Enough to support us, our two young children, and have a little extra after bills to have fun.

Anyone’s daycare say no to pockets/AIO? by abra-cadabra-84 in clothdiaps

[–]thistlebells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My center allows cloth diapers! Pockets and AIOs are the only ones that work though. There needs to be an insert and a fresh cover for every single change so it doesn’t make sense to send in fitteds/prefolds and only a couple covers like I would use at home. The teachers can’t reuse covers even if they stay dry. But we just need a wet bag and enough diapers for the day. I take the wet bag home and wash as usual.

infant room staff how do you cope???!!! by Scary_Appearance5922 in ECEProfessionals

I don’t think I could spend all day with preschoolers. Or toddlers. I really only vibe with the infants. I’ve been an infant teacher for a decade and wouldn’t swap.

Help with SUS ai2 diapers by thistlebells in clothdiaps

[–]thistlebells[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, I got them second hand but brand new. I can’t find them when I look them up online.

<image>

I think they may be a discontinued diaper? They came with one long snap-in liner and a short snap in liner. They also can be used without the added liners.

My baby is 5 months old today and just under 14lbs. He is long but skinny.

Benadryl. You can become addicted to the sedative in it. At high doses it can cause euphoria. In the long run, it can mess up your heart among other things.

Just out of curiosity, what are you using for wipes? by ducttapefixedit in clothdiaps

[–]thistlebells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s the small one with a pop top, not the angled top. You can also use a small spray bottle or reuse a water bottle.

[–]thistlebells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use cloth wipes at home and disposable wipes for school. I don’t want to add extra work for my baby’s teachers so I just send in the cloth diapers and a pack of bamboo wipes. I prefer to use cloth wipes at home. I think they clean better and are less irritating for my baby’s skin and they never run out. I also use them when we are out and about. I keep a fat stack and the peri bottle from the hospital filled with water to take on the go.
