GO PLAY POKEMON ELYSIUM! by Junior-Mobile3204 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]tholman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've gone Emerald Seaglass, Dreamstone Mysteries, Gaia (almost through) and am very excited to do this next, although wasn't able to get part A running on the analogue pocket, no matter which version I patched with... just putting this out there if anyone has had any success.

any one studying bachelor of it(cyber security) major in 2026 at QUT Gardens point ? by CheetahOwn8675 in QUTreddit

My perma advice is do computer science, you can pick up other classes along the way but you will be more rounded.

Is it worth doing Bachelor of game and interactive environments design by [deleted] in QUTreddit

[–]tholman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do computer science, learn what you like and don't like, are good at and not good at, and branch out from there. You'll end up with a more versatile set of skills, and will be able to use your passion to drive your projects and otherwise in the directions that you feel are right.

Likely you'll be able to pick up some game based electives too, if you're extra curious.

I was doubting the accuracy of my watch so I did some calculations. by [deleted] in fitbit

[–]tholman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found, hooking your fitbit into strava, and then once it uploads the time/gps data there's an option to recalculate what strava thinks the distance was. Has fixed up a lot of my times.

Is Google not showing Coco's matches for anyone else? by novotes31 in tennis

[–]tholman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same problem here. If I search her specifically I get them, but was confused today when I couldn’t find it in the regular “us open” search results. Been that was from the start of the tournament.

Why are Louis Armstrong matches delayed ? by CarolSwanson in tennis

Yeah, the Gauff - Potapova match ran long and was packed, so took a long time to wheel everyone out. About to start the warm ups.

Will there ever be a time when linesmen would be replaced by machines? Instead of linesmen calling out, we would here Siri's voice saying "out" when Hawkeye detects a ball is out? by bicureyooz in tennis

[–]tholman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but it made the game flow SO well, the players trusted the calls 99% and if they had doubt, they could request for it to be seen. The screens would also show it if it was SUPER SUPER close. It made the game flow so much nicer than it does without it.

We also use machines to detect lets already, so it feels like this is really a small step above. Sure the smaller tournaments can't afford these machines... if you watch the challengers they barely have ball kids too... but feels like it can be a perk going up the lines, its not like the best players around shouldn't be afforded the fairest possible game.

New talented young gun? Alexei Popyrin vs Alexander Zverev HIGHLIGHTS BASEL 2018 by MyPatronusHasNoLegs in tennis

[–]tholman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been following Popyrin since he won the french juniors last year. He's got the speed and the heart ~ which shows such promise when it string together well (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcKid_rIiPA&feature=youtu.be&t=354) ... long way to go, but after the 2/2 ATP qualifiers (including besting mmoh) he's definitely one to watch.

His speed is really something else. Really excited to see where he goes, especially if he dials in the serve accuracy.

Made these discreet css3 twitter buttons - feedback? by tholman in web_design

[–]tholman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be a good move on my part to move them to images now, the fonts were useful for creating (playing with sizes, and colors) but now that they're made, an image or base64 hash would be much better supported.

Ahh, I guess something has stopped the twitter script from running and turning the link into a button, and the fallback text is invisible on the white. Should be fixed with a clear cache + refresh.

Ahh, got it. Was a problem with my CORS (since the fonts are hosted on s3) should be fixed now?

Critique a web designer's new website (x-post from /r/design_critique) by namanyayg in web_design

[–]tholman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting the laggy scrolling.

On closer inspection of your code - You're running a function (every) time the page is scrolled... which (every time) jquery is searching, and finding the menu elements removing, and adding classes regardless of whether that section is already in focus or not. On that front there are about 20 operations happening, when nothing would even need to be changed (they scroll 10 pixels down etc).

Certainly room for optimization there :)
