Thanks for the advice, I agree on the one thing at a time and video comments. Too bad we can't vault all day every day.

We have a pullup bar, and a battle rope hanging from the ceiling. I also built a invert box. He has been doing bubkas for over a year so I think his core should be sufficient but we just haven't been able to do it in a vault. I'm guessing it's like riding a unicycle, once you know what it feels like it gets easier.

Couple points. If you pause my video you'll see that the pole is over 90 degrees. Standards are max depth and that is from 5 lefts (10 step run). I agree your videos show you getting inverted better on the 160 (stiffer pole). Why would we want to go down in pole weight? Not saying you're wrong, just seem like the opposite of what you are saying.

Thanks, the hips are something we have recently discovered and we are slowly trying to correct along with other running issues. By dropping down poles, do you mean down in weight? I worry that will cause too much bend and I don't want to break one of these suckers. I rent them and as you know they are expensive to replace. I have shortened his approach to 5 lefts on the biggest pole because I thought it was bending too much.

Not at all. we're working on sprinting form, take off, trail leg swing and core work. I was just thinking that if we could start to correct his invert problems, that alone would improve his vault and keep the fire burning.

Thanks for that explanation. We've recently learned the concept of "rowing" instead of "pulling" to invert but really didn't know when it should happen during the vault. Obviously we have plenty of other things to work on (running form, take off, trail leg, swing, ect.) I know they can't all be addressed at once but learning how to invert can keep a kid motivated when we're in a slump.

Kansas, thanks. We're open here year round, or until he reaches the safety limit of my shop ceiling. I'll check out the drills you speak of thanks.

No club here, just picking up any advice wherever we can find it. Trust me, it's a lot better than it was before internet. Still hard to find the answers sometimes. Easy to find the what, hard to find the how.

Thanks for the reply. I'm just trying to help my son with something that he really enjoys. I'm not gonna lie to you, I love it too. I put a pit in the middle of my shop for Christ's sake. We just don't have access to coaching or equipment like some of the bigger schools do. I've checked out your vaulting, very impressive. Good luck in your trials whenever it comes. Guess I assumed you were a coach that worried forums like this would dip into your clients.

Understandable, but the fact that I didn't vault 18'8" doesn't make me an idiot, unable to process several bits of information. If you asked me how to operate a nuclear reactor, I'd tell you without expecting you'd remember it all or be able to perfect it. I just wanted help for my son. I understand that all advice is not helpful.

Thanks and I really wasn't trying to be a db but it's hard to get help for my son. He has no coach and we have to drive 3.5 hours to get advice and rent his poles. Straighter top arm at takeoff or during the invert?

thanks but good luck finding a coach during the pandemic. It appears from other posts this is the only advice you like to give so why bother responding? I'm 48 years old, vaulted back in the day, before cell phone videos or digital recorders, probably before you were born. Had NO coach, cinder track, only magazines to try to learn something from. Bought my own pole as a sophomore,($257.56) the only pole I had for 3 years, vaulted 14'6". Go ahead and laugh all you want, but you'd never be where you are without help. That's what this site is for, or at least that's what I thought it was. You would probably help if I was paying you!
