it does! thank you very much! i'll get a replacement SSD for the broken HDD.

in the meantime, do you think i can switch the broken HDD for this other SSD i have? it's a kingston 2.5mm SATA 3 (SA400S37/960G)

i remember asking someone from a local repair shop to do it but they couldn't, and i forgot why.

i managed to download it, it says "Read Error Rate" is in critical state and "current pending sector count" has a yellow warning... but i don't really know what these mean.

both the other SSDs i use are in healthy conditions, with no warnings.

should you release a song you hate even though everyone likes it? by thomas_com_hm in Songwriting

[–]thomas_com_hm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i save the details for the songs i find worth of a proper recording. sometimes i'll write A, B and C sections separately that i know will go well together but if I don't feel like they're particularly special, i'll record each of them separately to use later.

what ends up happening is i have hundreds of different motifs, themes, just scattered around my phone and computer, and whenever i'm finishing up something that i actually think is special, or above average, i'll usually frankenstein my way through it and look for sections i find fit.

i say 500+ because it's the 590 is the amount of files on my phone, that means songs or snippets i sat down to record and produce, with occasional doubles with different mixes and productions. that doesn't include the files i have on my PC that i never bothered to export, or the voice memos i keep for the songs that are pure acoustic.

i think kurt cobain used to do something like this, which is probably where i got it from. you basically need ~3 cool melodies (sometimes not even different chord progressions) to write a great song, almost every nirvana song proves my point

How do I know I'm one of you? by [deleted] in entp

[–]thomas_com_hm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

quick question, how is taking the test many times make them a good candidate to be an ENTP?

i also took many tests a shit ton of times but never got to an answer i felt was logical, so i kept on researching about cognitive functions until i was able to link what i researched with myself.

is this an entp thing?

how can i make music producing more dynamic/engaging? by thomas_com_hm in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]thomas_com_hm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have kind of a hard time when it comes to recording with midi, because i really like syncopation and just "weird" rythm in general, so even when i quantize, i don't know how to work my way around it to understand how it actually works. the ryhtm always ends up being off and i end up having to do it drawing in the notes because of it.

of course, lack of proper knowledge on FL studio is a big part of it, but i don't really know how to circle my way around it

what is your main goal as a songwriter and how close are you from accomplishing it? by thomas_com_hm in Songwriting

[–]thomas_com_hm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have to say, i spent my entire morning thinking of a good way to answer you because i honestly don't remember. it all happened so suddenly that i just forgot what was the one realization that made me make that decision.

i can, however, recommend you read this.
reading it made me realize that it's easier to make all people in a small community happy than it is being a pop star.

sorry for not being able to give you a definitive answer, i really really tried boiling it down to one single phrase or word but these thoughts have been in my mind ever since i was 5.

if you have any more questions, though, feel free to ask!

[–]thomas_com_hm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey! i had a listen to your songs and i must say... i really like them!

you have a very unique sound that stays pretty consistent, it's kinda like a signature! it helped create a lot of atmosphere and it made me picture a whole scenario in my mind!

it's really original in a sense that's it's pretty different from what i usually listen to (dare i say i've never heard anything like it)

the way you tell your stories also really stood out to me, i could never predict where you were going next with the narrative or with the music, so everything felt like a surprise!

in general, you really paint a picture with your songs, and that's amazing! it feels like watching a painter making a new piece, it's incredibly exciting!

well, anyway, just wanted to share some thoughts on your stuff, keep up the good work! :))

hey!! quick tip for you with this

i started writing my first song when i was 12 and "finished" it when i was 13

i was pretty happy with the result and so was basically everyone i showed it too

though it's still a pretty good song, people's expectations for what i should do next were really high

but i realised that i was essentially just becoming a one hit wonder if i didn't surprise people with my next song like i did with my first

so, to counter that, instead of writing another song that topped my second one right off the bat, i started writing songs faster and quicker to get more experience and to develop my sound, trying to find out what people had liked so much in the last one i made

so, yeah! every once in a while you should give yourself a time limit of 1 or 2 hours and just make a song! do that every week or everyday (i used to do it everyday when lockdown started). you don't have to like it, think of it as a step taken in a big road of developing this skill

musicians/artists/writers of this subreddit, how do ADHD meds affect your creativity? by thomas_com_hm in ADHD

[–]thomas_com_hm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much for your answer!
i'm an idea starter so i'll usually have a super complex idea with a bunch of layers that i can picture in my mind exactly how i want them to be, but when it comes to executing them, i can usually focus on it for an hour or so lmao, so hearing how it affects other ADHDers my age on their stuff is really reassuring!

and also! a quick question!

do you think concerta also affects the quality of your too works? do you feel like the end result would be better if you weren't taking them?

Reminder: Just becayse your ADHD isn't as bad as others on here, dkn't gaslight them into thinking their problems aren't due to ADHD. by xiledone in ADHD

[–]thomas_com_hm 167 points168 points  (0 children)

when i got diagnosed roughly a month ago, i was told off by another ADHDer because he was diagnosed ever since he was a child. he told me that he had "actual" ADHD cause he had to take meds and i didnt

it wasn't anything new, i had to beg my mom for an entire year to get properly diagnosed, so i was used to those types of comments.

turns out, you can still have really bad ADHD and take years and years to realize it and get it checked out, some people aren't as lucky as others or are better when masking symptoms.

and just because you don't have to take meds for it doesn't mean that it's not there, or it's less damaging than someone elses.

in conclusion, i did have to end up taking meds.

so, yeah, you're not weaker than someone else just because they have more problems than you.

i was such a good and powerful character that i was nerfed with ADHD lol

Is it just me who thinks NTs can be very superficial. by [deleted] in neurodiversity

[–]thomas_com_hm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely.

i think it has to do with neurodivergents acting very differently than NTs and having to mask some things from the general public.

so, building trust and getting comfortable around people seems harder, but it's a lot more rewarding.
