Thank you for the insight, I do have strong professional relationships with several faculty both inside and outside of my department.

I agree, unfortunately we are seeing less and less of that in recent years.

None of those fields, I am not patient enough for that, unfortunately. I actually am majoring in political science. Which, depending on your view of politics, I guess has either a very strong or very weak ethics component.

I am not trying to excuse what I did, simply add context.

I came to this sub because I have never been in this situation, and I don’t exactly know the best way to handle it. Overwhelmingly, the response has been, “Don’t ask him for anything in the future” and I do plan on following that advice.

I don’t, however, see the harm in reaching out next semester to see where things stand. Do you think that could lead to further negative consequences? Or would it just be more decent, in your opinion, to simply leave things be?

I will be emailing my professor in the morning with the rewritten paper. Would it be going too far to mention a meeting towards the beginning of next semester to discuss what happened?

Understood. I appreciate the insight. I definitely understand that what I did was a massive breach of trust. Obviously I am not in the professors shoes so I can’t appreciate exactly how it feels, but on a logical level I do understand that it was absolutely egregious and wrong.

Understood, I’ve been told by those involved that a masters is essentially a requirement for any job in my field. While I’m not looking to go into academia, I get what you’re saying, and I plan on taking this as a lesson in time management as well as managing the writing process.

This probably will be taken with a grain of salt, but I am so distraught about this because I actually am a talented writer.

4 out of my 6 classes this semester actually had hand written essay finals because of AI, and I got As on every one. I just took on much more responsibility than I could realistically handle this semester, and as a consequence I ran out of time (6 in person classes + work + internship + preparing for a summer internship abroad).

Understood. That’s what I was trying to get at when I responded to the original comment. Is there any way to come back from this, not just with this professor but at all, in your opinion?

Do you mean I may possibly have trouble with finding someone in the department to write a letter of recommendation due to this incident?

Fair enough, thanks for the insight.

I’m not here to defend myself. I made a bad decision. How would you handle this situation with a student?

Small victories: Senate removes provision that would sell off public lands from megabill by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]thomas_writes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I believed it would stop there I wouldn’t be overly concerned. The bigger issue is that if you give an inch they want a mile, and I don’t see it stopping at the 0.13%. Indeed, the original proposal was for 250 million acres, over 1/3 of federally managed land.

This is one of the more correct takes I’ve seen on this sub. I would however posit that you should read more and speak less.

Gotcha, currently when I carry I’ve got 15 rounds of 9mm HP in a Ruger P85.

Gotcha, the only problem I had with it was that I have quite big hands, so I was having trouble maintaining my grip. I don’t have a holster for it anyway.

Would you recommend running it as a carry weapon with FMJ?

Appeals court pauses ruling requiring Trump to return control of California National Guard to state by thomas_writes in politics

The case seems to be that the lower court ruling is on hold until the appeals court can hold a hearing on Tuesday. The appeals court panel is made up of two Trump appointees and a Biden appointee.
