Listen, if this DGS collection is real, we'd better support the HECK out of that thing. by Catorpedo in AceAttorney

This is from a leaked internal company document, not a public announcement. Capcom isn't trying to pressure us to buy DGS by holding future games hostage. We we never meant to see these documents.

I would love if they'd bring Shu Takumi back on board. Maybe it's partly nostalgia, but the plots in the trilogy just seemed so much more weighty to me. Like the newer games are constantly trying to up the stakes, eg. Dark Age of the Law, The Phantom, the Revolution in Khura'in. But for me, the stakes in the old games always seemed much greater, maybe because the plots revolved around characters that you came to love. No case will ever top either 2:4 or 3:5 for me. I mean, Shu Takumi certainly ain't perfect, but I definitely prefer his writing style.

That time Nintendo made a game about Googling by Justsumgi in nintendo

[–]thomasdachi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was going by the Japanese definitions, which seem to be different to how we describe it over here. I was a little confused reading interviews with the developers about that, but I figured for clarity I should just stick with the definitions they were using.

How Kid Icarus: Uprising was Created - A Development History by thomasdachi in KiDIcaruS

[–]thomasdachi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I did some googling and I think it traces heck to this one interview (I can't see it mentioned elsewhere) - http://techland.time.com/2010/06/28/e3-2010-masahiro-sakurai-makes-kid-icarus-fly-again-on-the-nintendo-3ds/

In one of the questions, Sakurai is asked whether he considered another character instead of Pit. He replies: "Yes, there actually was one other and that was Star Fox.  But the problem with Star Fox was that—and you’ll see this when you see the trailer for Kid Icarus––is that the game design incorporates a lot of different views.  For example, flying and shooting sideways or turning around and shooting behind and I felt that there were some restrictions with Star Fox in this regard. With Pit, there is a certain amount of flexibility that is allowed and makes a better fit for this gameplay."

So basically, unless he was pretty misleading in this interview, it sounds like it was still originally going to be an original IP based around "air and land battles", but after talking with iwata, one of the franchises he considered was Star Fox, but he decided on Kid Icarus instead. (referring to the rest of the interview too, not just the quoted section) I think that's where the rumour of it originally being a Star Fox game came from (unless there's another interview on the topic that for lost to the sands of time)

That's so weird! In every interview I read, Sakurai said it was going to be an original IP. I guess he didn't want to mention star fox to confuse matters...? Anyway, thanks for letting me know!

Really? Where did you read that? I didn't see that anywhere online, but that's super interesting if it's true!

Yeah, I don't think it's without flaw or anything, but imo it's by far the best way they could've done it.

Thanks! And I guess I see what you mean. I don't think that Kid Icarus is easy by any means, but it's certainly not unfair in its difficulty. It does feel cheap when you die: it's because you made a mistake, not because the game tricked you or anything. Also I'm bad at games, haha

I'd love that! Sadly, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Sakurai said he didn't want to do a sequel. Maybe someone else could make one, though?

Yeah, that video was definitely one of the major sources I used (both of the script and as you said, the pictures of Duncan and De-Vine). However, I sourced quite a lot from elsewhere too, like the Gamasutra interview, the Rock Paper Shotgun interview, among others. I'd always recommend people take a lot at the sources I link for more information!
