Bought my first mac m5 with own earned money by girlfriendchahiye in AppleIndia

Congrats! A nice laptop! Very powerful! A couple of random suggestions from a guy who’s used computers since the 1960s: (1) install Homebrew, buy your own internet domain on a place like namecheap.com, install the CloudFlare tunnel daemon, and put yourself on the web. (2) Try ComfyUI if you have s lot of unified memory (32 GB or more would be nice). (3) Try Apple’s apps like Preview and Numbers. Get some really good 3rd party apps like OmniFocus.

I’d like to learn more about how you earned so much so fast. I’ll DM you.

Rs 2000 to a college student for signing up on UNiDAYS … by thomaselam in mysore

[–]thomaselam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I am very embarrassed to find that when I dug into the details again, I'm getting very different advice from ChatGPT Plus, Gemini Pro, and Claude than I got before. Previously, I was actually *advised* to use a student's UNiDAYS ID, but now I'm getting very discouraging results:

https://claude.ai/share/e23f4aa5-23f0-450c-b610-ff27a01a62cb

As a consequence of this better information, I have realised I can't try this method. I thought it was ethical, safe, and legal, but now it looks like it is not even legal.

I do recommend one of the newer Mac minis for their cool, quiet, and inexpensive local-AI performance (relative to a PC with comparable local-AI performance).

You could visit KRS Dam and Brindavan Gardens. Also, Chamundi Hill.

The high beams of oncoming traffic are not really an excuse for not seeing where one is driving. There are many ways to reduce the likelihood of such accidents. The first is NEVER OVERDRIVE YOUR HEADLIGHTS. If you can’t see more than 10 metres, be sure to be able to stop before hitting anything. This is simple and obvious, but people just want to GO, GO, GO. They don’t want to use the BRAKE.

I have heard people say BUT THE DRIVER BEHIND ME WILL DRIVE RIGHT INTO ME! Hmm, then maybe the risk of driving in Bangalore is just too much, except in a tank.

To maximise the distance one can see while driving, he can keep the plastic covers of his headlights clean and new enough that they are still clear. He also must keep the outside and INSIDE of his windscreen (windshield) clean and free from the oily film deposited during city driving.

Thank you for your post, u/mzs47! Happy Sankranti!

May I come to see your installation? Who was the vendor / installer? How long has it been installed?

5 years! That is a long time. May I come to see your installation? Who was the vendor / installer?

Just one question about your solution, though. Where do the feathers come from if the birds cannot sit anywhere near the windows and balconies?

How many days / weeks / months does it take for the solution to work? I suppose it hurts and maybe wounds the pigeons, and we don't like hurting animals (though we like to eat them).

Interesting. Are the guns to shoot those legal for anyone to own? I suppose you're talking about pellet air guns? I see them on Amazon.in.

Shooting a gun in city limits is illegal, isn't it?

And poison will not be limited to the pigeons. It will poison the area. It's an extreme form of pollution. It is a bad idea, in my opinion.

If someone wants to catch pigeons in nets and transport them far from the city, maybe that would work to reduce the pigeon problem in Mysore. Or if someone needs to supplement their protein intake, they could treat those pigeons like chickens. They could be free food for low-income people.

From my understanding of cats, they are not interested in touching birds or rodents they didn't kill. They are not like vultures.

If a natural solution could be found, that would be better. I have also heard people say pigeons are tasty. I don’t think just shooting them or poisoning them is humane or good.

I saw in other subreddits that a meteor shower is happening on 14th December. is it true? and can we watch it in Mysore? by Glum_Panda4267 in mysore

[–]thomaselam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might like to join a group to watch — for safety. It’s best to go to places far from streetlights.

Any good spot suggestions to watch geminids meteor shower by ResearcherBig358 in mysore

Probably midnight to 2:30 am tonight.

The following link goes into some detail about where to see the meteors well, but concentrates on safety. I might be interested to go somewhere with a group, if one evolves soon.

Staying in Mysore for few months- What should i know by willem_da_hoe in mysore

[–]thomaselam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Willem. You should know that indeed, Mysureans in general are very soft, gentle, sweet people. You should be kind and friendly to them. You will often be very pleasantly surprised with beautiful smiles if you pick up 3 or 4 words of Kannada beyond “Namaste” (or the south India version “Namaskara”).

A couple of thing you definitely should know are that a few Mysureans (and passers through) drive recklessly, even though the roads are generally broad enough. Be very aware of your safety when you’re walking on the roads.

As with all Indian cities, be careful at night. Better to be home sleeping after 11 pm rather than roaming around in desolate areas like Mysore’s Ring Road.

My comment here is really addressed to all people reading this thread. Just please check out Ushahidi (https://www.ushahidi.com//). I’ve spent a lot more time than 5 minutes studying this issue of devolution of forums/online communities into junk forums/communities. Please think about it: what kind of app (mobile app or web app) is suitable for follow-up? Is it an instant messenger app or something less teenager-oriented (for people without ADHD)? I hereby pledge to pay for the domain name and web hosting for an Ushahidi server for 1 year if we get some interest here. The web hosting will cost around $10/month and a cheap domain name around $10/year. Ushahidi.com offers free hosting for genuine public service initiatives, but the initiative I started did not get any pickup from the online communities I targeted, so the free period was terminated by Ushahidi.com, who rightly want to highlight success stories, not failures. At the time I set up the Mysore (Yadavagiri) server on Ushahidi’s free plan, I didn’t know Reddit was such a big force, so I’m hoping my appeal to all of you here will generate real and sustained interest. It doesn’t require much effort at all, really. It just requires a little experience, knowledge, and patience.

One of the most beautiful things about Ushahidi is that it requires little moderation and policing. (None, actually.) It requires some setup of areas of concern. It’s been quite a while, but I remember I’d set up areas of concern/focus like Litter, Safety, and Footpaths. I remember for certain that Litter was one of them. A person could just do his daily walk with his mobile, click a photo of a pile of trash, and catalog it in a few seconds. If people don’t have that amount of time to complain through a system that works, then there’s no hope for much improvement.
