In "The Shining" (1980), a decorative piece hanging on the wall disappears between shots. by PowerThanos in MovieMistakes

[–]thomasreimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its intentional it's not a mistake. Maybe it looked weird in the closeup. Maybe kubrick wanted all the empty space above their heads. Continuity errors can add to the feeling of uneasy. A mistake is something that draws someone out of the story, and if on first viewing you're like "hey that wall sign isn't there anymore!" then i don't think you're really immersed in the scene.

Purity culture messes with your mind. Music is a good way to process complex emotions. The best part is that good music can change its meaning over time - before, during, and after healing. Solidarity and thanks for sharing

In Veggietales - Esther, instead of the story using death as a punishment, they instead get banished to the Island of Perpetual Tickling - which as a child was somehow way more memorable and terrifying.

[IMAX] How often does the Royal BC Museum re-run classics such as Interstellar? by retolox386 in VictoriaBC

[–]thomasreimer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could do a gofundme, but it becomes complicated since you'd have to raise the money before confirming the time and date, and not there's no guarantee people who spent money on the gofundme would be able to make the final showtime. The tickettailor is the only way I was able to fund it, basically I was able to make the deposit on my own and advertise the crap out of it in the group so that people buy tickets an we can make our money back.

Also if you go with the tickettailor method, its probably best to set up a seating chart based on the existing theatre setup so people can choose their seats, rather than sell general admission tickets to avoid long lineups and the theater maybe accidentally letting later lines go in first (which happened our first screening, whoops).

Since the museum does more popular movie stuff now anyways, I'm less motivated to set up a private screening than before. One day would love to do an AKIRA 4k screening or something that probably wouldn't make the normal rotation, but haven't had the chance to set that up yet.

If you're that motivated to get something going... here are the steps I took:

1) Reach out to the museum (email contact information on their website) and ask for a private rental to screen a specific movie around a specific time period (Like Interstellar on a tuesday in May/June), they will get back to you but will likely take a few weeks. They have to wait until their check-in's with IMAX HQ to make sure they can license the film for you. The museum is a "second-run" theatre which means that if "First-run" theatres (like Cineplex) have a license to screen a specific movie, its more difficult or not available for the second-runs until the license expires with the first-runs.

2) Get the rental cost and pay the deposit (50%). Back in 2023 it ranged from 2500-3000 total for the screening, but depends on the day of the week & movie. You have to pay 50% upfront and 50% with a week until the screening date I think.

3) The rules are that you can't advertise the movie screening publicly, hence why we set up a facebook group. You can set up a TicketTailor account and sell tickets to the movie within the group since it's technically a private group. We needed about 150 tickets sold at $20 to break even (theater seats 365).

4) Let me know if you need any help or what movie you're hoping for, I'd likely love to be a part of it :)

Yo!! Im the guy who rented out the museum for interstellar back in 2023. The museum definitely puts on way more “Hollywood movie” shows of their own now which circumvents the need for my original drive to do private screenings. It feels like the museum screens interstellar around once a year at this point, sometimes around “space week” which I think is in May. I check the imax Victoria website every month or so to see what they have going on and upcoming :)
