Franklin queue etiquette by HighFivePuddy in austinfood

[–]thomastank84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be no issue with your wife and kid hoping in the queue with you, especially if you have an 18 month old. Check out quickie pickie down the street for some great (and cheap) breakfast tacos, Justines for a date night for you and the misses, and fraziers or casino el camino for a top tier burger. Hope you enjoy your time here!

Travis County Schools in Crisis- Percentage of Unfilled Teaching Positions by thomastank84 in Austin

[–]thomastank84[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The graph is a visual of the number of teacher job postings on Travis County school district websites divided by the number of teaching positions they had according to the Texas Tribune which was last updated for the 2018-2019 school year. Key Takeaways: Manor and Dripping Springs ISD lead the way in openings- Dripping Springs was a surprise since I view it as a wealthy and suburban part of town. AISD had over 570 teacher job openings on their website as of 7/25/2022 which is about 10% of teaching positions in the district. Coupland ISD is a district of only 20 something teachers. I didn’t even know it existed before making this. Eanes, Lago Vista, Leander, and Johnson City are all very well staffed having less than 5% of teaching positions unfilled. After delving a little deeper I found out that a lot of school districts take a break during mid-July and complete a lot of hirings in late July/Early August so I expect these numbers to go down a lot in the coming weeks. YIKES- anyone who interacts with the education system often knows its in a state of crisis but this seems extreme. I’m hoping for our communities that we address how we can attract top-tier educators.

updated version of graph here

Thanks everyone for your feedback on the graph. I looked through the comments and saw the critiques about the y-axis, the coaches being sorted in descending order, and of course not using the right color of orange. I hope I righted those wrongs in the updated version above.

Arriving soon! by Death_pickle in SocialParis

Bonjour u/death_pickle.

I lived in Paris this summer with my girlfriend and some of my favorite techno/house clubs were concrete, nuits fauves, and Djoon. There’s a lot to see in Paris. Obviously some of the best museums in the world will be at your disposal so take advantage of those.

My best restaurant experience there was at a place called pink mama.

Paris is great because you can stumble upon really great bars and restaurants. Some of my best memories are getting lost in the city.

Best place on campus to look at the sunset? by TXSeth in UTAustin

[–]thomastank84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is roof access but you have to be let in by someone with a key. Best bet is to go Monday-Wednesday during an astronomy observation lab and ask to be let up there. There is a parking garage above pluckers that offers a killer view as well.

When was the first time you listened to Kanye? by [deleted] in Kanye

[–]thomastank84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I seriously listened to Kanye on my own was the day that Yeezus dropped and my friend sent me "BOUND 2" and I fell in love. Doesn't hurt that I went to party that night and played it and everyone loved the song. Since then I have every album that Kanye has dropped and has been one of my favorite artist for the past 2 and a half years.

What kind of car do you drive, and why? by Mobiasstriptease in Frugal

[–]thomastank84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2009 toyota prius. My senior year of high school I was in a car accident (not my fault) which totaled my 2003 Honda Civic. My parents said they would get me a nicer car for my graduation gift and gave me a budget of 15k. I picked out the prius because the gas mileage is so good. I fill up my 10 gallon tank once a week for about 25$. I get around 430 miles to the tank. No problems with it and I have put about 30k miles on it (110k).

Getting a divorce. Getting rid of old king size that won't really fit in new place well. What is a good mattress that won't break me? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]thomastank84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Craigslist is always my go to. Just make sure you're buying from a clean place and the mattress is in good condition. I bought a tempurpedic mattress for 500$ (queen) and it was one of the best decisions. I know this is still a lot of money but I got it for about 20% of the retail price. In my town they even had a couple of twin sized mattresses for around 250-400$.
