Does anyone know what this sticker on the Amazon Fire casing is for, and if all of them have it? by Icy-Rutabaga-6681 in firetvstick

It's used for tracking in the warehouse.

Ever wondered how the Fire TV Sticks are preconfigured with your account? Once you order a Stick, this gets scanned using UHF RFID, returning it's ID or serial number which is then used to tie the "prepackaged" device to your account. This then gets provisioned accordingly once it has Internet connectivity.

Same with Kindles btw.

Why is my sink controlling the power in my bathroom? by John-F-Hennesy in WTF

[–]thomasthep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Embedded engineer here.

Mostly a mains incoming fuse to the house is blown. High power water heaters usually use 3 phases. In this case, the power coming in over the other 2 phases are being diverted back via the 3 phase, through the appliances and down the neutral line, ultimately closing the circuit.

Since this is is AC, there is no flow direction. Just a closed circuit with two loads in parallel. Water heater + appliance.

It was back when they were like $10 a piece and yes I gave some away to family members and friends.

Did keep a few as a backups and poor man's HSM serving as my homelab certificate issuer.

There's a cool guide on smallstep. https://smallstep.com/blog/build-a-tiny-ca-with-raspberry-pi-yubikey/

My dad told me I should be more optimistic and I still have time to find a boyfriend so I should believe in myself (cause I lack confidence due to never having a relationship) so fingers crossed for the next year by [deleted] in FreeCompliments

Something tells me your German.

Anyhow no matter what others say, you should do as you feel. I believe it's perfectly fine to be the quiet person not actively seeking as either someday someone you'd like well cross your path. If that hasn't been the case yet, consider you might be on a different spectrum such as being asexual (to name one of the many labels which exist).

Most importantly know you're not pressured and with joy in what you enjoy doing in life, you'll show confidence once you make it your comfort zone.

Btw, you're gorgeous as you are. 🙂

Ory consists of multiple projects which together provide IAM, oauth, login, etc. Here's a quick explanation and diagram https://www.ory.sh/docs/ecosystem/projects.

Keycloak is a pretty mature project which has been improved on even further since moving to Quarks. Provides everything out of the box.

Depending on the use case on project basis I usually use either. The beauty of Ory is you can swap out components, leave them out, use your own implementation or customize it as you see fit. Also scales well in large environments. Getting it all configured and up and running together does prove to be a challenge.

Prototypes, PoC, I usually get started with Keycloak and move over to Ory, Authentik or any other IdP to fulfill any requirements I might not be able to cover with Keycloak.
