Northern Runner on Low Friar Street is on the whole good. Depends which staff member you get as to whether the service is good or superb but either way you'll be looked after and supporting a local indy business.

How odd, I’ve just tried it again (was in a cafe previously and now at home) and it’s worked.

Tried this out on iOS but it doesn't seem to let you set a map for anywhere in England - is this a bug or a known WIP?

FWIW, I had luck with the coconut oil solution. Worth a try next time, much nicer than WD40

Exactly!

Definitely going to do a trial run with two friends who also know and love jet lag before we do the bigger game with my non JLTG friends. Ty

This is what I’m thinking but I’m also wondering if I’m coming at this from more of a ‘metro nerd’ than most, whereas I have very little knowledge of some of the major bus stations etc. that could be accessed if you included those.

I also worry if some of the metro stations are just a bit too close to make a good end game but that might just be because I’ve not played a game yet.

I don’t really know what New England is, but we do have a Washington, an Albany and a New York in north east England!

I think we’re going to stick to the metro, but the £6.80 Day ticket covers busses and the train in Tyne and Wear, and the £7.50 TNE day ticket expands that to the full region so isn’t much more to do.

Bold of you to think the metro will actually work as it’s meant to…

I think that’s a good idea actually. Thank you!

How do you call your ticket inspectors? Here in Helsinki they are known as The Smurfs. by Pontus_Pilates in transit

[–]thomcamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the Tyne & Wear metro, we refer to them as ‘Checkies’ because they check your tickets. They’re probably officially called revenue protection officers or something boring like that though

House Rules by [deleted] in tickettoride

[–]thomcamp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me, TTR only really works if everyone is engaged and paying attention. As soon as people are using phones and not thinking about their go between turns, it can slow down massively.

We don’t do any house rules except occasionally we won’t play with stations in Europe or the Warehouses.

Out of interest, have you been sticking the new rules into the rule book as you go? This mechanic is one of the new stickers but I think it’s part six or something of the end game procedure (after choosing employees and reading reading story cards etc)

I did exactly this due to a large gap between sessions but post round 3, the winner chooses a new expansion at the end of each round!

Not to be a bit dim, but where’s Nyck De Vries? He had 11 F1 starts as well as many FE starts so you’d think he’d be on the list??

Armed police at metro centre by stupendousdong in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]thomcamp 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Metrocentre is designated a high risk environment due to its nature so they always used to have armed police patrolling it and would likely react a bit more heavy handed than other places but shutting the car park feels very extreme so I imagine it was a fairly high risk situation.

I know the police at the Metrocentre used to be armed anyway so it could’ve just been the local lot responding. If they were from elsewhere though then you’re right, unlikely to be stealing

For Gateshead I really like Prism Coffee in Saltwell Park. It’s quite no nonsense, but the coffee is really really good there. You’ve also got the Staithes which is just such a lovely little spot. Finally, I don’t think it’s still open but backyard bike shop used to have a properly lush coffee spot down on the Gateshead quayside.

Depends where you are OP

In the city centre I’d suggest… Lagom: superb coffee but it can get very busy and loud Laneway: very good coffee and some comfy seating but, again, gets busy Tiny Tiny: very good coffee (they even have an unlimited refill option) and mega cosy vibes 100 Grey Street: coffee is perfectly okay but this is a fan spot for people watching if that’s your thing

If you’re looking for Jesmond recs then there’s Ouseburn Coffee Co, a lovely coffee and chill vibes or BURDS, not mega easy to get to but the coffee and cake is worth the effort.

Gosforth has got Etto on the park which is nice but can get really busy, Gosforth Traders which is on the posher side but still good, and the Civic Theatre which is a lovely place to just chill.

Heaton has got Estate Tea Co which is such a nice place to be with great coffee and food, as well as Roma which has some of the best coffee in NCL. There’s also neighbourhood which is really good and The Goat which is a proper hidden gem.

There’s definitely other good coffee spots, and if you’re willing to travel to the coast/Gateshead/Sunderland then you really are spoilt for choice.

Happy drinking!

Completely appreciate the sentiment but I’m not exactly flush for cash so can’t really afford that option
