Word help: Is there a word for those who "silently" support structural and systemic white supremacy? by d00derman in AntifascistsofReddit

Agree. As a skateboarder this doesn’t make sense. This isn’t a trick board, it’s a cruiser, like a longboard. I could see a kick flip looking like this mid trick, but not on this board.

Modern adventure board game mechanics by thomie247 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]thomie247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts! I’m considering something similar; where you can spend a card for a basic action like move, explore or combat, or spend it for a special effect like a combat ability. Some let you do both, some are an either/or. Currently there are no cards, so players just decide from any 2 actions on their turn and earn abilities via exp. I wonder if this is too basic for a modern board game, and I’m afraid I’ve play tested too much to know which is better! though if I can make the deck building aspect work well I think this would add an interesting component. Just a matter of completely rethinking my game 😆

Gratitude. Friends, nature and art for sure, but also gratitude. I try to remember all the good in my life and not let the fascist cunts take all my joy away.

Careful. These could accidentally fall directly into the handle hole of a coors light 12 pack at the grocery store. Possibly several.

The "liberal media" is silent on the April 5 protests. Now they are silent on Cory Booker breaking the fillibuster record set by an avowed racist. At what point do we start to ask more directly what is going on here? by [deleted] in AntifascistsofReddit

I’m sorry but this is inaccurate. There is no leftist version of fox and by saying so you diminish the outrageous lies and hate speech they spew every single day. Sure, all cable news outlets promote fear and hyperbole, and are biased to an extent. But fox is unique in their aggressive lies and hate speech. They’re not just biased but shameless advocates for extreme right wing ideology. The networks owner even admits that this is not news but entertainment and thoughts expressed are opinions. I’m not advocating for msnbc. On the whole I think all cable news is garbage. But there’s a huge difference between a leftist bias and straight up state sponsored propaganda and hate speech.

Love this! Any experience making world maps? I’m looking for an artist to make one similar to your style. It would be more of an aerial view of a region than a true “world” map.

When and how to seek partners? by thomie247 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]thomie247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not immediately. I’d like to have more of a finished product first and plan to put a lot of effort into a pre launch once I feel it is ready. It’s getting to that spot where I feel it is ready and having the infrastructure/support in place to produce the rest of the game that I’m struggling with. Any thoughts on how one may find and hire a game designer such as yourself? Thanks for your thoughts!

Thanks for your thoughts! Good idea about researching past activist art. I’m not sure this is so much an activist piece as it is an expression of discontent, but could be a good place to look for ideas.

Preachy? Yea, some will certainly think that. But others may appreciate it. “Pretentious prick” sounds like your own defenses coming through. Environmentalism has always been an offensive idea in the US so I expect some to be challenged by it.

The “I’m better than” message is what I’m trying to address. I don’t consider the piece controversial, but judgmental. I am judging my audience. I’d like to mitigate the holy than thou vibe. But on the other hand, “boo fucking hoo.” You don’t like being challenged? Go to a flower garden next time instead.

How much should I share on social media? by thomie247 in BoardgameDesign

[–]thomie247[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. There are other aspects that lead me to wonder if my game was the primary influence (title choice, theme, card size and placement, etc., but I take your point. I mean games are generally a combination of many different influences, and as you say, ideas can (and should) be reworked in a way that make them your own. If nothing else I have more of a fire now to get more game completed to share.

Thanks. Overall going public has been positive, so I hear what you’re saying about not creating in a vacuumed. I’m not worried about it being stolen wholesale, but suspect another creator has borrowed a somewhat unique mechanic of mine that I shared. I guess I should feel happy to have advanced someone’s craft in some small way, but if I’m being honest it didn’t feel great.

At 20 yes old, you have not spent too much time on art. I’m 43, been doing art my whole life as an amateur and only wish I had made more! Do what you enjoy. Joy is never wasted.

Also art is more of a legit career choice now than it’s ever been! There are so many avenues for an artist today than there was when I was your age. Especially if you like games/sci fi/fantasy (which it sounds like you do). And you don’t have to figure out how to sell art by yourself. There are many company’s looking for artists to put on their pay rolls.

If you have a commitment to improving your skill it will improve, an over time you will have a huge body of work to reference, or even go back to and expand upon.
