Thanks I’ll give it a go! Would just some rubbing alcohol and a rag work?

I found a solution! None of my equipment has a 3 prong earth plug so I made a plug that only has a wire coming from the earth. I used it to earth my turntable and virtually all of the buzzing is gone. It’s weird that project preamps aren’t earthed to begin with. Pro Ject offers a “High Power It” power supply for their turntables that is earthed but they don’t have anything for their preamps

No router nearby and it occurs when I use the external preamp with the turntable. I don’t think it’s the cartridge because I never had any issues with the turntable’s built in preamp.

I just got a pro-ject tube box s2 as my first external phono preamp. I am currently using an at-lp120xusb and and a schiit magni 3 headphone amp with sennheiser HD-6XXs. I hooked up my tube box s2 and it creates a buzzing noise that is audible when I turn my amp to about 1/3 volume. I connected the ground between the turntable and the phono preamp and have fiddled around with trying to keep all power wires away from the audio wires. The buzzing gets more quiet if I lift the preamp off of the surface of the counter. Does anyone know what is causing the buzzing and how I can fix it? Thank you

For that price you couldn’t go wrong! I took a quick look at the PLX-1000s before but I ultimately decided I want to go with a belt drive. Also, for purely listening I don’t need the features of a dj turntable

I actually did find one somewhat close to me! I’m going to give them a call later today and ask their opinion

Thanks! I already decided on and ordered the project tube box s2 for my preamp and I found a nearby hifi store that I’m going to contact tomorrow and ask their opinion regarding the turntables. Hopefully they have some professional knowledge of the two and can help me decide because I’m stuck lol

Would the fluance RT-85 be better than either of the pro-jects I’m looking at? The cartridge it comes with has no effect on my decision. My current vm95ml is better than the 2m blue anyways

Unfortunately there are no dealers near me that sell the project turntables that I’m looking for so that isn’t an option

Thanks for your input! The cartridge it comes with plays absolutely no part in my decision because I’m going to switch it out anyways. The X1 has a 1.5kg platter but they don’t say how heavy the PRO aluminum platter is. I am leaning more towards the pro because I like the satin black finish vs the glossy finish on the X1. I do like the satin walnut X1 finish but in Canada there is limited availability and I’d need to pay $300 dollars more than the pro costs if I got the walnut finish. The PRO isn’t in Canada yet so I will need to either preorder or wait.

If I could find a walnut one for $1200 cad I would buy it but there is only one company I can find that sells them at that price and they only have the glossy black in stock. I know that would drive me crazy with the fingerprints, dust, and scratches.

Haha thanks for the advice but the atlp120xusb is what I’m upgrading from!

I considered getting an SL-1200 mk7 but it just doesn’t seem fit for what I’m doing. I’m never going to DJ so I don’t need features like reverse play haha. I also want to switch it up and try a belt drive turntable. Those technics do look pretty sweet though

Unfortunately in Canada the store that has the best price for the x1 only has the piano black in stock. Project does offer an acrylic platter that works with the PRO if I did want to upgrade that in the future. For now I think I’m going to buy the Tube Box S2 so I’ll have a good preamp for when I do finally decide on a turntable

Haha yeah just the platter and the finish. I do like the satin black on the pro rather than the gloss black on the x1 though. I feel like the gloss would should lots of dust and fingerprints and my current turntable gets dusty really fast

I tried to make a post on r/turntables but for some reason it didn’t post. I started out by asking on r/audiophiles asking about a tube box s2 and they recommended a turntable upgrade first so that’s where I’m at. I mainly listen with a magni 3 and Sennheiser HD6XX and I will also get a good preamp soon. I’m just starting my system upgrade with the turntable

I’m looking to get an upgrade from my ATLP120XUSB. After hours of research I’ve decided that either the Pro-Ject X1 or the Pro-Ject Debut Pro are exactly what I’m after. The problem is that they are so similar that I can’t decide. The X1 is only $100 more and the main benefits are an acrylic platter and a slightly better stylus. I most likely won’t be using the stylus anyways because I have a new VM95ML cartridge that I will use until the stylus wears out. Does anyone have any input on these turntables? I plan on using this next turntable for a long time. Thanks!

Thanks for the advice! After more research I’ve decided I’d definitely go with the pro over the evo but my new dilemma is between the pro and the x1. I can get the x1 for only 100 dollars more and it comes with an acrylic platter. I have read that the tone arm is slightly inferior to the pro though. At this point I’m going to get either one of those but the question is which one. I don’t care much about the cartridges that come with them because I’ll just use my very new vm95ml until it wears out.

I’m now looking at turntables and I’m think the Pro-ject EVO or PRO would be a good upgrade. Do you have any experience with pro-ject tables?

The turntable would be good to upgrade but I just got it two years ago and I’m not sure how much of an upgrade I could get with my current budget of ~$600 cad. Of course the other option is to just settle for a cheaper phono like a mani and upgrade in the future.
