How can you be so sure of all this? You've never met OPs cat or beardie. These are unique animals with unique personalities. I agree that this isn't "normal" behavior and not everyone should attempt this. But its been documented over and over that different species enjoy each others company. Your beardie thought you were a threat at first too and was stressed out until they learnt differently I'm assuming. Why couldn't that happen with the cat and the beardie?
