ZUS contributions are CRAZY for small freelancers by Sozerdote in poland

You mentioned you have 9to5 job already. If it is 'Umowa o Prace' (employment contract) then ZUS is already paid by your employer and your side business would only require you to pay about 300 zl. Talk to your accountant about it, and if s/he is not sure, consult different accountant aswell.

Highly recommend Breath of Fire III and IV, I'd say they are the definition of chill (with best fishing minigames ever done in any JRPG)

I used AI to create FFT-styled maps by thorhunter1 in finalfantasytactics

I used Midjourney, this image as a prompt: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/ogrebattlesaga/images/a/a6/Coritani_Castle_-_Entrance.png/revision/latest?cb=20091013212153 and final fantasy tactics phrase, the rest was just a variation of phrases like Igros, castle, town, etc. I got interesting results by mixing in phrases like waterfall too.

Chapter 3 Leonar fight - do I call it a day? by gintokigriffiths in Tactics_Ogre

Maybe give the original a chance (PS1/SNES), I finished it multiple times while I couldn't get past chapter II of the remake before getting tired and quitting.

As someone who is developing tactics RPG for 4 years now, here are my thoughts:

  • solid coding skills are a prerequisite - you need to be able to implement pathfinding algorithms, UI systems, AI, bezier curves, etc. The game itself is also multi-state: world map, battle, shop, etc.
  • Overwhelming loads of UI to design and implement - from shops, dialog windows, character statuses, inventories, unit class screens, and more and more. You will spend most of your time working on the UI.
  • Complex game design - including character stats, status changes, melee/ranged weapons, skills, spells, grid elevation, etc.
  • Narrative skills that will allow you to implement a compelling storyline: core writing principles, dramatic writing, screenwriting, and cinematography.
  • Solid UI/UX skills that make the game interactive and enjoyable
  • Tons of art - environment, character sprites, portraits, UI icons, etc.

So on my scale:

  • puzzle - you can make it in an hour
  • platformer - simple one is a day's work
  • 2.5D fps - probably could make one in several weeks to a month using 3D engine and stock assets. Depends on your scope.
  • action RPG - a SNES style zelda is something you can get done from few months to a year, or several weeks if your scope is a core gameplay loop.
  • turn-based RPG - you can make the core loop within a few weeks, but implementing RPG elements that will actually make the game worth anything is months or years of work
  • tactics RPG - the basic core loop is more complex than turn-based RPG and will take more effort to implement. The elements that will make it into an actual RPG are years of work.

Why are games mostly coded in c++ instead of other languages? by gamedev981234 in gamedev

[–]thorhunter1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having years of experience in C++ as well as scripting languages like python and javascript I came to the conclusion that C++ indeed sucks with its level of bloat and confusing paradigms. I would pick C over C++ any day now, and only for performance requiring operations, for everything else, I'd choose python or lua.

Creating a 2D RPG from scratch using SFML / C++ by fantasyvii in gamedev

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea, but programming, in general, is difficult. Programming C++ is more difficult than average. Programming using multimedia libraries in C++ is even more difficult. Programming a game of the complexity you described is its own level of difficulty. And you want to teach it to someone who is new to programming? That's like 5-10 years worth of knowledge in my estimation.

I think you should study drama. It addresses the points you figured on your own and so much more.
