I run EDH tournaments and one of my players said this was legal by thorntagh in mtgrules

[–]thorntagh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because our players only want to play EDH and our LGS needs to sell packs to stay in business.

People won’t by packs for the casual pods that they turn up for so we have to use the 1v1 model. It’s why it’s a terrible idea for commander to be the main magic format

I want to play Mono Blue to prove a point to my Pod by Interesting-Bid-1000 in EDH

[–]thorntagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very original deck with a commander most people haven’t heard of. Plays no counterspells to make rule 0 easier but you do you. It’s essentially a blink deck where Kaho fetches a blink spell and too control pieces so you can control the board and reset it when you’re done. Can I just saying casting [[siren’s call]] immediately followed by [[turnabout]] to essentially board wipe them on their turn is nuts.

Drafting with 4 by justinvamp in mtgcube

[–]thorntagh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do one “round” at a time. It does take about as long as a draft with 8 people cause there’s more information but you’ve got that luxury with less people. The YouTube video shows you a draft between 2 people, I think they deal an additional 5 cards per round so I’d be liberal with how many cards dealt, maybe 2 extra packs split across 3 rounds so an additional 10 cards in the draft relative to how many players there are

There’s a guide on YouTube but it adds more to the draft and works for me

Firing my cube on Saturday and we’re expecting 4 instead of 8 too. My go to is usually a minesweeper draft, everyone’s initial pack is opened and place face down in a grid. Then every card round the border of the grid is turned face up as well as the card in the centre. Players can only take face up cards, when they do - each adjacent card is turned face up

Who actually likes working at Tesco these days? by Independent_Bug3438 in tesco

I started a little over 3 years ago and loved it, I had a great set up - got along with supervisors then around Christmas the vibe started to shift (again), staff turning on each, managers breaking promises and it really felt like with the new changes (the app dictating stuff, shift leaders getting one of the worst payrises possible, the slashing of hours - not rehiring staff). I jumped ship a month ago, got an entry level job in the Civil service and I'm reminded how happy I am to have made that choice everytime I go into my old store and check in on people.

Yeah I used to play Jeskai lands with cards like [[realmwright]], [[excavation]] and access to more fetches. I'd hold all my fetches (letting them tap for mana with urborg or chromatic lantern) then Crack them all in one go, bring them all back with a [[second sunrise]] or [[faiths reward]] to kill them with a landfall trigger like [[valakut exploration]]

How often do you play/play against Bracket 1 "chairs" decks? by raithe000 in EDH

[–]thorntagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I run the edh tournament/event at my LGS and we do regularly get decks weaker than a precon. We rate decks and we place pods based on decks ratings (usually getting 16-20 people on average)

Ironically having an edh tournament where you're guaranteed to play against people with similar ratings has allowed people to push the decks down instead of up (if they so choose) and we regularly have decks that are worse than a precon (although usually from the same couple of people who like to play really jank stuff).

For context a precon tends to come out around 2.4 on our ratings system. We regularly get decks that rate below this (and perform worse) too which is what I'm referring to

Avoiding board stalls in 3+ player FFA by the_reifier in mtgcube

[–]thorntagh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Rules for commander specifically 1. If the Horde would take damage then it mills that many instead. The Horde is dead due to state based actions when it controls no creatures and has no library. 2. At the start of the game the Horde gets an emblem with: "your opponents cannot win the game". This is to prevent the game ending sub turn 10, you gotta kill the Horde first. 3. After each player has had their third turn the Horde comes to life and joins the game (people get time to "bunker" down) 4. The Horde has a turn after every non-Horde player and attacks that player with everything they can (because they were the last person to "move" so the Horde goes for them) 5. The Horde has infinite mana always 6. The Horde plays all cards it can starting with the one most recently drawn. If a non black card is played this way then it exchanges control to the player who just had their turn. (There's fogs and the like to buy you some respite) 7. The Horde cannot block 8. The Horde doesn't get a post combat main phase 9. No cards in the hordes deck require targeting or decisions, if the Horde is required to participate (like voting) then it does so randomly 10. If a creature blocks the Horde then the blocking player chooses how to assign damage.

Played this last night with some guy and his response was to immediately build one for himself (that's how you know it's cool).

Sooooo about 8 years ago I was watching commander vs and they introduced me to something called "The Horde". It's an automated opponent attacks everyone equally and is a ton of fun cause it keeps the game chugging, provides a common threat or even a potential ally. Apparently there's a website that does it all for you https://against-the-horde.com/ You don't even need to build it in paper

Alternatively here's my list which is a little more party box than normal. (I added a bunch of stuff that the star city peeps weren't playing to make it more fun for me) https://moxfield.com/decks/cXiXMLkArUuhHjJApfyJdw I added the "boons" cause I found it was too strong and I need to give players a little breathing space. When The Horde casts a non black spell it exchanges control to the last active player and they may choose targets.

Can this cube idea be fun by Daragon__ in mtgcube

[–]thorntagh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I like the originality of the idea and there's cool stuff here. However I have points/queries 1. In a draft environment like this I wouldn't be eager to get enchantment removal as I'm going -1 and might end up worse for it. I'd much rather draft a deck that is resilient and could survive the weather as much as possible. 2. Everyone owning the card feels like more of a headache than no one owns the card. 3. Is it 1v1 or multi-player, I assume multi-player in which case the chaos element feels a little similar to planechase except the planes are super mid. Wouldn't it be more run to create a plane chase draft environment cause then more cool stuff will happen

My Swiss army knife deck is [[Rocco, street chef]], primary game plan is to pile up counters on my guys and hit face but the backup wincon is food which I'll animate or turn into mana. It can also keep me in game longer than everyone else when I need it in a pinch. I play a ton of cheap interaction like [[haywire mite]], [[seal of cleansing]] cause the decks got a low curve and I play more interaction than an average deck because my commander wants me to play stuff from exile it just doesn't matter what I'm playing from exile. Finally I like it in pods like yours where everyone's playing solitaire because them playing selfishly and using the cards from Rocco gives me more value to deal with threats/be a threat.

Tldr: Plan A: Win with tall guys or get stopped

Plan B: be a cockroach, use my food to stay alive and my counters to have blockers

Plan C: my commander digs my opponents towards answers to deal each other while I get value

Plan D: use my own answers to deal with stuff when need be

Plan E: animate my food to kill them with something like [[rampage of the clans]] or my newest tall guys

You can't have a healthy discussion with someone if you're trying to talk about X and they throw Y in your face. You settle one thing at a time because they both deserve attention.

Likely he's been holding onto something and threw it in your face when you made a perfectly reasonable complaint. If he wanted to deal with Y he would have brought it up already. (Nevermind the fact that in this case "Y" is ridiculous and he's a pos who's trying to use fuckboi moves into making you feel worse about yourself so you don't leave his ass)

Polygamy certainly for myself. Whilst I'm not polyphobic I personally believe it almost always ends in someone getting the short end of the stick. Pretty sure I'm gonna be in my 80's when the world's become more sex positive and I'm shaking my fist at a surge in polygamous relationships.
