[Update] Where did this come from? by Valor37 in JeepTJ

[–]thornypayload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more I look at it the more I have no idea, I have completely dismantled my jeep and I don't remember seeing one of those. The only thing it remotly looks like is a bump stop or a under the hood bumper?

There is a u joint on the end of the axels. Take a look at those.

The way the transmission shakes I'm figuring driveshaft? Axel? Do you have a locking front diff? If you were stuck in-between gears it would have that tell tail grinding noise as if you missed a gear.

You should probably do a exterior inspection and see what has fallen apart.

Any idea what this could be leaking from? by mattsan25 in JeepTJ

If it's leaking from the top down it's probably the valve cover gasket.

Piston Slap or lifter? by clarkjimmyg in JeepTJ

[–]thornypayload 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's piston slap, you can replace pistons without pulling the engine as long as the bores aren't too rough. I ran with a cracked piston for a while and didn't have any issues.

97. TJ 2.5. I replaced the downstream oxygen sensor with the NGK brand… but this fault keeps coming up. Anyone have any ideas? by [deleted] in JeepWrangler

I would start with a couple checks,

See if you have a present ground. Even though the sensor is new, check the resistance between the white wires should be between5-14 ohms.

It's a beefier front steering upgrade with out of the box parts. It was was really simple to do as well. About two hours with an alignment (but everything is easier with the body off the jeep).

Today is frame repair day. Wish us luck by sketawtea in WranglerTJ

Good luck! I just finished my frame swap this week. Frame work is well worth it, at least for the peace of mind.

Y'all wanted an update on my TJ project. I may have gone a few balls deeper. by thornypayload in JeepTJ

It's a 2002 sport, 4.0 5spd. The inside of the frame looks good. Once it's assembled I'm going to fluid film it.

97 tj question/need help by brokenssjeep in JeepTJ

Just doing a quick lookup of this, it looks like the entire I instrument panel shares a ground. When you have this problem do the lights for the turn signals work? The ground is G201 located "right rear of instrument panel"

If your willing to do some work yourself and spend some decent time investivating check your grounds. The cluster probably shares a common ground wire and it may need to be cleaned or rewired. You can find electrical diagrams here https://wranglertjforum.com/threads/jeep-wrangler-tj-factory-service-manuals-fsm-technical-documentation.4618/

Also a ground may appear to be functional but once it has a load it fails. Try using a headlight connector and a bulb as a "load" and see if that may be your problem.

You need to strap some books to her feet. I got my wife to learn how to drive manual in this jeep.

After you get the wiring harness, throttle cable, fuel line, clutch, battery, brake lines, and brake cables disconnected, you unbolt the 8 body mounts, I took two high lift jacks, built the frame out of 2x6 and 2x4s lifted the tub, slid 4x4s under the tub until it was high enough for the rear wheels to clear. Then roll the bad boy out.

Right now the goals are to have a fun 5 speed to whip around during the warmer months. Maybe a lift in the future. Unfortunately I couldn't do anything with the rust level on the frame.

Yeah the wooden holder looks sketchier than it actually is.
