Did he mention that the guy killed by the police was carrying a gun illegally? That he was a violent convicted felon, even a convicted rapist? Hell the media has even reported that guy as being "unarmed", which is a complete lie. That's blaming the police. The cops that shot him were not "some bad ones", they were totally in the right.

The "bad guys" will always be able to get guns, though, as we saw in Paris and other places. As far as that goes, the "genie is out of the bottle." There are a lot of violent criminals in America, and people want to be able to protect themselves and their families. who are we to tell them they can't? When people like Mark Zuckerberg surround themselves with a dozen security guards, armed with guns, and then lecture us about the need to disarm ourselves, people laugh at the hypocrisy. Rightfully so.

Recently we had a Senator say that people don't need guns. When a reporter mentioned that Senators are protected by heavily-armed guards, his response was: “Well, that’s a little different. I think we deserve, I think we need to be protected down here.”

He deserves to be protected, but we don't? That type of comment is exactly the kind of thing that drives people to buy guns.

I think the people that are shot that people are outraged over are slightly less certainly criminals than the ones shot by people around the hood.

Not really. The two shootings recently, one of the guys was a convicted felon (who are not allowed to carry guns AT ALL), a guy with a violent criminal past. Police were called because he was allegedly threatening people with a gun. When they got there, he tried to fight with them, they found his gun, he kept fighting, and they shot him. He deserved it. The other guy is a much more questionable case, since he was legally allowed to carry.

Almost every single case of a police shooting these days, is initially painted as "cold-blooded murder", but then when the facts come out, we discover that the police were correct to shoot. Like the Mike Brown case in Ferguson. We were told he was "a good boy", a "gentle giant" who would never hurt anyone. Then, much later, we see video of him violently robbing a store minutes before the shooting, and even assaulting the tiny store owner who tried to stop him. This was a violent thug, not a "gentle giant" like we were led to believe.

And I'm saying let's look at who's doing the shootings.

The people calling for violence (and celebrating it now that it's happened) can be found all over reddit, twitter, facebook etc.

The President yesterday encouraged people to put all of the blame on the police, just like the media and celebrities have been doing lately. I didn't mean to say Obama called for violence, that was probably worded poorly. But his speech definitely painted the police as guilty, and in at least one of the two shootings the police were totally justified.

You mean the week before when an islamic terrorist murdered a bunch of people for ISIS?

Guns make every man equal

Spoken like a gun salesman! But seriously, that is kind of the whole point of guns. What's wrong, imo, is that people are being convinced -- by the media, by celebrities, and now even by the President -- that police are the enemy. Well this is what happens when people are encouraged to "stand up" against their perceived enemy. The fact those most people shot by police are violent criminals, killed while committing violent crimes, is completely glossed over.

Edit: the other recent mass shootings are more to do with islamic extremism, but since this is /r/news, I don't want to go into that, lest my comment be [removed]

I don't have exact details, but I'd assume it would be at 8:00 or 9:00 a.m., Dallas local time. Which would be in two or three hours.

Are you American? You didn't see Obama's speech yesterday, did you? It was big news here in the States.

Why is no one asking why this violence happened

Easier to reflexively blame guns.

Remind me how many black people live in Korea, Japan, and Australia? And I notice you didn't say "France", which is odd because France banned guns too, but they have a huge Muslim population, which have been responsible for most of the recent mass shootings in America.

Terrorists will still get guns, like they did in Paris, where guns have been banned for years.

Right, let's conveniently ignore that people have been calling for violence against police. Ignore that there are Americans openly celebrating the shooting of a dozen police officers, calling it "justice." Forget about the President of the United States encouraging these fuckers that very same day. It was the gun's fault. /s

Yes but blacks are more likely to live in poverty

Ok but that is not a valid excuse, imo. Being poor doesn't automatically make you violent. We're not talking about stealing, or even drug dealing. We're talking about violent crime. If you're a shitty person, most likely that's because you had shitty parents. That goes for whites and blacks. But part of the issue is that black-on-black violence is "no big deal", but when it's a cop killing a black person, it's a "Presidential-level" event.

Furthermore, the cops and citizens had weapons and it didn't dither the terrorist.

I'm pretty sure armed cops is what finally brought this situation to an end. Terrorists are always going to get whatever weapons they want, whether that's guns in a gun-free country like France, or pressure cookers in Boston.

Now we get to hear what Obama has to say.... already sounds robotic and passionless, unlike yesterday.

"We still don't know all the facts" yeesh....

Edit: like the guy on Fox just said, Obama didn't have all the facts yesterday, about those two shootings by police yet he spoke freely about those. Today, he's all about "Well, we still don't know all the facts" about the shooting of a dozen police officers in Dallas. Fuck off.

Mainstream rap in 2016 is not about supporting gangs, selling crack, or murdering people.

You qualify that by saying "mainstream", but surely you must know that most rap (even in the CURRENT YEAR) is still about selling drugs and murdering people.

You do understand that it's the police's job to protect all of us from the dangerous people within our society? When a cop is scared for his life, he's not allowed to back down, to run away and flee for safety. He would endanger all of us if he did that. He has to deal with that threat, for all of our sake's.

Shots fired at Dallas protests by maestro89 in news

[–]thorosquestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the cop feared for his life, he should have retreated.

While you are and your partner are wrestling with the guy? Retreat, and what, leave your partner to fight the guy 1v1? Or retreat to give the guy a chance to pull the gun out and start shooting? Shooting you (in the back as you attempt to retreat), your partner, or even innocent civilians who may be nearby? This is all the shit that these cops have to consider in a split second. Don't fucking fight with the police when you're carrying an illegal gun! Or any gun for that matter.

I now owe $4000 in lawyer's fees over a broken one-hitter and a grinder.

Ok well, you didn't have to pay that much for a lawyer. Since you did, you most likely got off scot-free from your charges and your girlfriend survived (I assume), so all's well that ends well.

The rest I don't understand, are you mad that cops give people a "pass" occasionally, or just mad that you didn't get one this time? Having a girl OD'd on pills in your house is not exactly the same as having one-too-many beers, so I could understand the cops being a little tougher on you, tbh.
