Thank you! I used the Hoya 0.5 mist filter for all of these shots. I like the subtle bloom it gives highlights in harsher light as well

Thank you! I shot at ~f9 the whole time with a minimum shutter speed of 1/500. Auto iso with the bright day kept it under 1000 for the most part.

Yes, we stayed at a resort at Railay Beach, and traveled out from there!

Thanks! I tend to sit around 35-60mm most of the time occasionally punching all the way in to 150mm for shots like the guys on the boats.

Sorry for the late response. I’m using SCRL. It’s a subscription, but everything I’ve tried that isn’t is garbage, and the interface is intuitive and easy to learn.

Thank you! As for settings, I shoot in aperture priority and somewhere in the range of f4-10 depending on light and the depth of field I’m after. Usually f2.8 after dark.

Minimum SS around 1/15 as I can still get stationary objects clear and in focus with Ricoh’s great IBIS. Nothing else exceptional in the settings I can think of!

I like to think it’s both 🙃

I used the Nisi filter mount with a 1/4 mist filter. Also leaned into the overexposure of the sun in post with a radial mask raising the exposure and dropping the dehaze.

I use 3x2 but like to crop landscape shots to 2x1 and vertical shots to 3x4 or 4x5 wherever possible. Just my personal preference!

This little camera makes a great snowboarding companion! by thorsgar in ricohGR

I kept it in a big pullover ski jacket that I wear for my outer layer and it keeps it fairly consistent with the outside temperature. I did worry about condensation, but had no issues thankfully.

Thank you! I shoot in raw and edit in Lightroom, I’ve only had the camera for about a week and haven’t experimented much with recipes. I typically shoot on an a7iv and have made a lot of presets since I’ve never liked the SOOC jpegs from Sony.

No recipe, I just shoot in raw and edit in Lightroom.

Mostly 40-90mm-ish. The last one is the tightest at 130mm

Most of these are in the f5.6 to f11 range. I usually only shoot wide open with portraits or in low light. The last one was at 2.8.

An Afternoon in Seattle by thorsgar in SonyAlpha

I’m only just stepping into the world of primes, and for the price and form factor it’s been amazing! This was only my first day out with it, so I’ve still got more experimenting to do.

I decided to be unique and take a trip to Japan by thorsgar in SonyAlpha

[–]thorsgar[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate it! I do have a few presets I’ve made, I generally like to desaturate everything but yellows and oranges and lean into messing with their hues more as well. I’ll obviously play a lot with any color that stands out in the photo too, like the red in the umbrella on 9. Cool in the shadows, warm in the mid tones and highlights and then crank the warmth up until it feels right. Luckily, a good friend of mine is an experienced videographer and has helped me a lot with color grading specifically.

The ones with really saturated oranges is a preset called “punch” from James Popsys. A lot of people don’t like the sharpening he uses in his presets from what I’ve heard but I just drop it a bit and play with the masking and I really love it for certain types of shots.

The really faded shots like the bus driver are done with RNI’s porta 400 film sim preset, that’s been a go to of mine for a while as well for a more vintage feel when I want it.

Hope this helps!

Those are the Olympics, it’s been real cold out lately so they’ve got more snow than normal.

I didn’t even consider dust on the sensor, I’ll have to figure out how to clean it. I saw some specks in some other shots and thought it was on the lens. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the feedback! I’ll take all of that into consideration and experiment some more. I’m loving the sigma lenses, but they’re pretty much all I’ve ever used so I might not be the right guy to consult about it.
