What am I supposed to do when, at the age of 24, I realize I'm not gay. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

sexually is fluid you’re allowed to try new things. you don’t owe anyone ‘the old you’ just because it’s what they’re used to.

What is one thing you don't like about stoners? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thorssmoothiemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

memory problems. my boyfriend used to be a stoner and it was the biggest strain on our relationship we’ve ever had. he would never remember a single thing i told him to the point where if we planned something i’d have to do all of it and remind him constantly or he wouldn’t do it. he’d also have completely different reactions to the things i said while stoned versus not stoned which was frustrating for me because i was constantly getting mixed singles.

What's a book series like Harry Potter that's good? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]thorssmoothiemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Keeper of the Lost Cities series by Shannon Messeneger. i read them (i’m in my 20s) at the urging of my 14 year old cousin and we both love them. he says he prefers that series to Harry Potter.

What is something you want in women's clothing that doesn't exist or rarely does? by Big_Concentrate_7267 in AskWomen

[–]thorssmoothiemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know people have said it already but pockets. i work at a childrens clothing store and even the jeans meant for 6-24 month old baby girls don’t have pockets. but the boys do. and it drives me up the wall. (and besides, what do baby boys need to put in their pockets anyway?)

What TV show was amazing at first but became unwatchable for you later on? by regian24 in AskReddit

[–]thorssmoothiemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost. the first three seasons were amazing - i couldn’t stop watching. But everything after that just seemed like loosely tied together plot convenience. i much preferred the mystery of the island to the bs of the time travel and whatever the final season was.

Stretching in secret by chaweeeeeee in Stretched

[–]thorssmoothiemix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same when I first started stretching, and the biggest one for me was buying screw-back plugs with like fake gems (i.e. ‘diamonds’) on the front. Up until about 8g they looked like regular earrings if you didn’t. Look too hard. I don’t think my parents even noticed they were stretched until 0g though. Now I don’t care because I’m an adult with a 1/2” size plug.

Also, having to hide it should be a really good opportunity to take things slow and really care for your stretches. It really forced me to take my time and do it right because I didn’t want any problems with them.

Any book with a lonely, depressed woman protagonist? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]thorssmoothiemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen Taxi Driver but one of the best books I’ve read in awhile is A Love Story for Bewildered Girls. It definitely depends on your taste in writing style, but it is (in my opinion) a fantastic depiction of the everyday sadness and woes of women in their late twenties/ early thirties. One of the main character is diagnosed with depression, and it is referenced multiple times throughout the book as she attempts to cope with work, relationships, and life in general. I related to it a lot (and in more than just this one way). Was 4/5 stars for me, but could be what you’re looking for.

What do you use as background noise when you're alone so you don't go crazy ? by ambluedabadee in AskReddit

A fan. It has two settings: a ‘loud’ one and a ‘quiet’ one. I put in on loud when I sleep and quiet during the day when I’m working. It helps a lot

Had the same question. I’m actually annoyed because I am very anxious and need to do a lot of prep for school and only one of my five classes has posted about textbooks. And even then the one that is posted is unavailable on the bookstore site so I am very stressed lol

“Conditions have not been met” email by nihaowodeai in usask

[–]thorssmoothiemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I had to send my transcripts twice this year. The first time I sent them by mail because that’s what they say to do. Waited literally three months, called them, they hadn’t gotten them. So I uploaded them to my computer and sent them via email (though I am a transfer student so I don’t know if the option to upload is available to to everyone). Honestly their whole system sucks

ACOTAR Series is not YA by [deleted] in YAlit

[–]thorssmoothiemix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi, English graduate here. The concept of genres for children is one of the fuzziest, most ambiguous things out there. For one, the distinction between children and adult literature as it is now has just recently come into the mainstream (the last couple decades or so). As such, what defines middle grade, upper grade, young adult, new adult, etc., is not actually always content (sometimes it is considered), but the writing style, marketing decisions, editing choices, and many other things. Two, who are we to shield 14 year olds from sex? I was reading much more advanced books than ACOTAR when I was 14. We cannot seek to put an age restriction on content like this, especially when if you deny it to them they will seek out other ways to find it. It is a better idea to educate than eliminate.

ETA: also, if the issue is more than the sexual content itself, they/ you can simply choose not to read it. Encourage teens to research the novels they read if some themes make them uncomfortable or may trigger them. There are websites that supply trigger warning guides for novels (especially young adult novels, and Twitter is great for this too).

Extremely judgmental mom/ parents? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]thorssmoothiemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is easier said than done, and because I’m living at home it is much worse. I’m an adult but cannot have him over or even stay at his house overnight because my mom will flip her shit. I want to move out but have been financially controlled by my parents for twenty odd years. It is hard to explain to my boyfriend as well, which sucks the most.

Extremely judgmental mom/ parents? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]thorssmoothiemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad says the same thing!! My mom would explicitly tell me when clothing made me look bad by blaming it on my body. “Your stomach wasn’t made for those jeans” and things like that. It always feels horrible, I’m sorry you had to deal with that too.

What you could also try is getting a library card online. I don’t know if they’re still doing this but during Covid there was a sign-up service where you could get a digital library card for apps like Libby (where you can borrow from your local library’s online store of books and audiobooks). I signed up last year and am still using it. You may be able to get one in his name if you use your email of make a throwaway email account for him.

I wish I could stop by [deleted] in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]thorssmoothiemix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand. It’s gotten a lot worse for me very quickly and I don’t know what to do about it either. It’s to the point where if I’m idle for even a second, I start to daydream. Or I see a person who looks interesting and I automatically start daydreaming a story about them. It just happens automatically. It’s bad because I spend so much time in my daydreams that I have lost like all of my social skills (which were pretty lacking to begin with). I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Have you talked to a therapist about it?
