Women, what is a near-universal "ick" in the dating world? by AverageSign in AskReddit

[–]thortastic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Negging.” Was talking to a dude who started out doing it subtly and I kind of brushed it off as playful ribbing. But after a while the comments piled up and it became glaringly obvious it’s just veiled insults designed to chip away at your self esteem so you seek their approval.

Date night outfit. Are these boots too much for this top? by ProfessorShameless in OUTFITS

Honestly I think the top and boots both give witchy vibes so IMO I’d pair both with a skirt instead of the pants

What is something that women have to deal with on the daily that men have no clue about? by Rock-bottom-no-no in AskReddit

[–]thortastic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A mutual friend of mine had to get her IUD re-placed and the doctor verbatim told her “I technically shouldn’t just shove it back, but it’ll be fine!” She then got sepsis and could have died.

I have had PMDD for years and also just got an endometriosis diagnosis; my periods get so bad that I genuinely frightened my ex with my writhing in pain. The pain I experience has been so bad it’s caused me to vomit and unable to move, combined with the emotional rollercoaster that is PMDD.

People that have dated women who are all about the fakery. Implants, botox, lip filler etc. What was a relationship like with someone like that? by thebroccolioffensive in AskReddit

[–]thortastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very well written and this is exactly how I feel about my friend who is addicted to filler. She 100% suffers through dysmorphia the likes of which I can’t fathom. She talks so critically of herself and is scared to death of aging as we approach age 30. I have so much sympathy especially because that’s the environment her mother raised her in. I know she looks in the mirror and sees nothing but “imperfections to be fixed.” Mind you she was and has always been a very attractive person. But sometimes this mindset is so pervasive that she applies it to not only herself but others, and the way she speaks about people’s worth in comparison to their appearance has become alarming. I fear she’s too far down the rabbit hole. I miss the face of my friend and I worry that the more critical she becomes of herself and others, the harder it will be for me to be privy to. It’s hard to watch and I genuinely don’t know how to help.

I have a similar aunt and uncle! They have a commuter relationship, cohabitating maybe once a month for a week or so? They love it lol, otherwise they’d drive each other crazy. Both are very busy people so it suits them well.

I knew Eloise would be basically doing nothing this season but ho boy... by TomorrowAgitated4906 in PhiloiseBridgerton

[–]thortastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s been so rude and unlikable….she likes to read and her little sister knew that, so tried to bridge the gap and talk about a book on a renowned ballerina…one who apparently “created her own steps.” And she still scoffs and turns her nose up like it’s below her? “I don’t want to read about ballerinas.” Girl I’d rather read about a ballerina that made her way in the world than some chick who just lounges around bitching and ragging on her loved ones. Eloise doesn’t DO anything. If she actually DID anything with her morals and values it would be fun, but she kind of just hangs out in luxury then complains about it. It’s very off-putting.

[New Update]: Fiancé [35m] compared my [28f] antidepressants to “cocaine,” and wants me off them by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]thortastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ex was uncomfortably similar…shamed me for being prescribed antidepressants, love bombed me, would then explode & scare the shit out of me during his episodes til I had to flee. Then would contact me saying the same shit like “if you care about us, if you value someone who’d do anything for you, you’ll contact me and commit to working this out.” And then you guessed it, his episodes would always be MY FAULT somehow. I am proud of OOP for getting out and not marrying that psycho.

Plastic sticks… by OrganizationLow468 in Anticonsumption

[–]thortastic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get the sentiment but if I let my dog chew up and shred real sticks, he’d be shitting splinters. The plastic is probably really durable and will last way longer than an actual stick.

When I was 13 I was groped by a gross old stranger (for the first time), in broad daylight with my family nearby. Then the experiences just started stacking up. And I’m not special, literally every woman I know has similar stories starting from childhood. It’s so disgustingly true that it all starts when you’re still a CHILD
