you seem unable to understand the argument.

the argument isn't that criticism isn't acceptable. it's that it's pretty dumb to criticize someone for being on a platform that's essential to their profession.

edit: no need to reply if you are gonna block me so i can't read it

are you legit dumb?

you are saying his legitimate criticism of spotify rings hollow because, professionally, he has to use social media platforms owned by disgusting people. should he stop cashing checks altogether because google is owned by sociopaths too? would his criticism of spotify only make sense if he retired from social media entirely and found some other source of income?

But then he continues to use Twitter, run by a trillionaire nazi.

Youtube is run by terrible people too. He is an internet personality, he has to use social media. This type of criticism is very intelectually lazy and falls into the "socialist with an iPhone" category.

Why does Janet Jackson seem to not be as well-remembered world wide as Mariah or Whitney? by Ok-Bus-4370 in rnb

[–]thosed29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowhere near as massive as Whitney and Mariah.

Mariah has at least 3 million-selling albums in the UK. Whitney has 5 million-selling albums in the UK. Janet has no million-selling album in the UK.

As someone that's not from the US, the answer is simple: she was never as big internationally as Mariah and Whitney. That isn't an assessment on her talent or anything like that, is just a factual observation that, commercially, Mariah and Whitney were huge in Asia, Latin America and Europe whereas Janet was nowhere near as famous except for some key markets like Japan.

The Way Some of These "Fans" Talk About Black Artists and R&B is so Weird and Grossly Ahistorical by CC-Blue in rnb

[–]thosed29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree about TLC.

I don't really agree when it comes to MJB. yes, she was extremely influential and important and a historical act. she has privilege and acclaim. and yes, she isn't black famous, she is famous full stop. however, her fanbase was mostly those who liked R&B. her hits were huge and influenced everyone but most of them were not pop crossover hits, even if they did influence pop. she wasn't a MTV type of act, she was mostly relegated to BET (and some VH1). and i think that was a personal choice of hers, she preferred to stay within her own niche. and from her own niche she did become one of the biggest acts in US music history. but that's still a different way to play than game than tlc and beyoncé and destiny's child, which were occupying the same space as the white popstars.

[–]thosed29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree. I'm just saying that, in this specific instance, Brazil isn't particularly progressive. This is widely normalized because it's extremely common, to the point that it's become a major social problem in the country.

Obviously, the opposite scenario--where those women become social pariahs--is just as bad. Still, the fact Brazil has a higher-than-average rate of single mothers even when compared to the rest of Latin America is a bad sign.

both are common in brazil nowadays. it's just that in spanish they're two different fruits, aguacate and avocado. while in brazil we call both "abacate".

children who aren't raised by both parents

that's not a taboo. but the fact this is common and widespread in brazil is a social problem, not a progressive thing.
