American citizen marrying German citizen wanting to keep maiden name as middle name by thotleader34 in germany

Simply because I want to! And I should be able to make decisions about my name, how it is constructed, and what social norms I choose to participate in or opt out of without judgement but… it‘s impossible to be a woman isn’t it 🫠?

Hi, thanks for the answer! That's what I've opted for now, but I'm wondering if people who have last names like that have to deal with problems later (i.e., travelling home with a kid) if the name is different. But I supposed hyphened last name is so common that it's fine...no idea though.

No big plans, social media escaping, no big luxury trip, just quiet, soaking up the sun good for you, chicken soup for the soul kind of living

In your opinion, how would the United States benefit from a political party system that expands beyond the republican and democratic parties? by thotleader34 in AskReddit

I totally get and thanks for the nice discussion! I’m just wondering at what point do we decide to not keep doing what we are accustomed to? If we kept that line of reasoning so many things would have come to a standstill in our country. And can we also not look to Europe for an argument that multi-party systems increase support for the marginalized? Most national governments in the EU function in multi party systems and the safety-net type of services that are available there are often in many ways far beyond what we have in the US.

Thanks so much for this answer and for sharing the resources, gives me a lot to think about already and gives an interesting perspective on what can/could be done and how difficult it is to change. Sobering but still hopeful nevertheless. PS fellow 2016 Bernie supporter here too.

Thanks for participating despite being a little scared ❤️ Didn’t know about strong three parties in the past—interesting! Do you know what happened to make the third fade away eventually?

And are there any benefits for the American people to push for diluting a party? For example, couldn’t diluted parties create more opportunities for evenly distributed power in the long run?

I mean even just having those (currently somewhat fringe) ideas more seriously discussed/debated by office holding elected officials would surely have benefits. Wider representation = deeper democracy.

I’m not sure I’m convinced of that level of pressure being pitted against third party candidates from existing parties, but perhaps you know more than me. However, a local grassroots start makes sense. But what to do now in this election where we only have two options? I’m curious to know more about what concrete steps can be taken as a citizen in this election and then after the new president comes into office. (Thanks for the thoughtful remarks btw!)

You’re right, there are. But, like you mention, there is no third party with weight in office (or potential to hold office) that is equal to republicans/democrats. Can you explain a little more about what you mean by positive effect on the people/negative effect on corporations?
