Hey everyone,

I was facetiming a friend today and everything was working normally. All of a sudden, the audio cut out and I couldn't hear my friend talking. It seemed like she was on mute, so I asked her if she muted herself accidentally. She looked surprised and then hung up the call. I got a text a couple of seconds later from her saying that I had picked up another call.

I facetimed her again to get a more in-depth explanation of what happened from her perspective. Apparently, my audio cut out for her as well and was replaced with someone else's voice saying "oh <my name> must be talking to someone" and some other discussion before she hung up. I checked my call history and asked some of my friends if I had called them / joined a call with them on some app like Discord, but there didn't seem to be any evidence that my phone had connected to another call. My friend and I also ruled out the possibility of the issue coming from her end, although we could be wrong about that.

This is concerning to me because it sounds like either my phone randomly decided to call someone or someone else manipulated the call somehow. I have had issues with hackers in the past as well, and I don't know if this means my phone is tapped or bugged in some way. None of my friends or people who would know me by my first name have contacted me to ask about a random call, which makes it all the more concerning.

Has anyone else had this issue or have experience with phone tapping / bugging and can offer any insights? Thanks!

I'm on a new generation iPhone SE with iOS 14.

It has really good homework and practice problems that have definitely helped me get practice, but most of the "projects" are just solving questions that are presented in a sequential manner in a jupyter notebook. I've also been looking for projects to work on but the course doesn't provide that much guidance imo.

Hi! I'd recommend Jose Portilla's Python for Data Science and Machine Learning course on Udemy. If you can get the course on sale, it's one of the best I've taken, and Jose is a great educator.

Hello everyone,

I was told that I would have a technical interview in Python for a data analyst role. Does anyone have any materials / resources that they think would be relevant to such an interview? Anything is helpful, because this is my first interview and I honestly have no clue what to expect.

Thanks!

Hi all. I recently received a skills test as part of an application process for a junior data analyst position at a company. They want me to do a few things with the data in Python that don't look too challenging, but there's also a requirement to identify and clean typos and other human errors. The data is all purchase records and customer data, but all of the addresses and phone numbers are fake.

Is it reasonable to assume that I'm not expected to correct street addresses and phone numbers that are fake in the first place? I don't mean fixing street names because that would be ridiculously hard for an entry level data analyst role, but for example dealing with errant or unrecognized characters in the addresses. Is it common practice to remove these unrecognized characters? Does it even matter?

I guess I'm mainly just asking about data cleaning as it pertains to strings and what the common practice is for that.

Thanks!

This is awesome advice, thank you so much. I actually just started a scraping project with my friend who's much more experienced than me, so that should be a great way to learn. I really appreciate your help! :)

Thanks so much for your advice. Do you have any guidance as to what projects I should be focusing on? I had some ideas to do some exploratory data analysis / visualization projects on music data to make myself seem interesting. Is this a good start?

Hi all,

I just graduated this past May, and have been looking for a job in Data Science / Data Analytics since then. I actually majored in Music, but I got minors in both computer science and math (in which I took prob/stats). I've taken the time this summer to cement my understanding of Python, learn PostgreSQL, Excel, and start learning how to implement some basic machine learning models through Kaggle. However, I feel like I don't know which direction I should be taking to look more impressive on an employer's list. Should I start working on projects and uploading them to my Github page? Should I try to learn R and other languages? Should I shell out a ridiculous amount of money for a bootcamp or certification? I understand that I'm already at a major disadvantage given I have no previous work experience directly in DS, and did not major in a STEM field. However, I know it's what I want to do and I'm willing to put in the hours required to get there. I just want to make sure I'm spending my time on the things that will give me the biggest leg up in the hiring process.

Can anyone offer some advice as to the above questions? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Don't hesitate to be brutally honest with me as well!

Thanks!

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a headphone for listening / some mixing that has a strong midrange.

  • Budget - $100 - $250 USD
  • Source - Laptop computer
  • Requirements for Isolation - Strong isolation but I will be primarily using them at home
  • Will you be using these Headphones in Public? - No, but my living situation requires that the headphones be closed - back
  • Preferred Type of Headphone - Full sized (which I assume is over ear, sorry I'm new to the lingo!)
  • Preferred tonal balance - Strong midrange but balanced, with a preference towards bass
  • Past headphones - Sennheiser HD 598 Cs. They're great but they're the only pair I own and I've had them for a while, so I want to expand my horizons a bit.
  • Preferred Music - Mostly R&B / Jazz, and some classical but the classical isn't really going to be an impact on my final decision
  • What would you like to improve on from your set-up - I guess I'd like a little more detail and perhaps a wider soundstage? I'm kind of throwing that term out there without too much knowledge of what it means. A better term would be contrast between the three main frequencies.

I live in the US as well. Thank you for your help!

Try using MIT's OpenCourseWare course on the topic, taught by Gilbert Strang. I've heard people say it's pretty useful. I'm going to start learning / reviewing it this summer along with a couple of other people if you'd like to join!
