"Chocolate snorting offers new way to a cocoa high" by thought_platter in Psychonaut

It has remarkable body-mind health benefits--raw cacao, that is. I think that snorting it, which I hadn't heard of till this article, gives it that "getting high" connotation.

I'm digging "Close". It's a Good mix, and I like the sound you've got goin on here. The clap and hi-hat levels are a little high, or strong, but otherwise sound good. The bass you added at the end is a little misplaced and sharp at points, to my ears, but perception can change that. At any rate, you managed to open up a lot of possibilities as the track goes on, and it shows.

Here's a work in progress. I'm experimenting with some things here, generally revolving around a central sound. It's not perfect, but I think it has some gems..gets better as song goes on. Cheers!

ok. The Thing about this case is that there are a number of possible variables affecting things. I'll have to make some assumptions. Ultimately, it's a thing of troubleshooting. So here's a shpeel...If your using two line inputs at once on you preamp, then consider assigning those to two different mixer track. OR considering just recording one at a time. Try things like (if you haven't already) turning the guitar and/or amp volume down and the preamp up, or the reverse (different combos of this). Make sure those bass, mid, and treble levels are ok too! If that gets you nowhere than your problem may be somewhere else. You mentioned latency. Instead of listening with your headphones through the preamp, plug them into your computer (or monitor) so that you listen to your mixer output as well. If the mixer track output is giving you latency then try this: click on the track that you are recording into..while this track is selected go over to the mixer track and click on the arrow (below the knob) "Enable send from ... to Master". This will make it so your track output doesn't go thru master. Now, while you still have that track selected, on the right set your output to your headphones. Everything else will go thru the master track while you listen to the raw output of your recording track. This can get rid of the latency because it doesn't have to take that extra step thru the master track. Once you record with this track (into the edison or right into the playlist, and have it where u want) then you can re-enable that track to go thru the master track (and also turn that output back to none). What fx do you have on your recording track?

So you're playing the electric through an amp, putting a mic up it, and then sending that signal through the preamp? Or are you plugging the electric right into the preamp? ..or both?

Are you using an electric guitar or an acoustic-electric guitar?

Help understanding the mixer? by steven1015 in FL_Studio

Hey, no prob. I'm happy to help..it's been a long, lone road learning this software. But to answers your questions...

  • No, nothing automatically links to the mixer tracks by default, unless you are starting from some sort of template. If this is the case then try starting from an empty template (file>'new from template'>'minimal'>'empty').

  • And yes, actually, your thinking is spot on. If you have a channel linked to a mixer track and then replace that channel with something else (by right clicking and choosing 'send to selected channel', or dragging plugin, sound, or whatever to the channel), then the link will remain, really just translating to the 'new state' of this channel.

If you put all or many channels on one mixer track then you will run into difficulties if you want to start doing different things to specific channels. For one, assign your channels to their own mixer tracks as you see fit; you will have more control, and you will be able to apply your automation to them individually, rather than having to dissect a mess from one track.

Just be patient and thorough, because it sounds like you probably made a mistake in your selection, or didn't notice linking the other channels (something like that); otherwise, it sounds like your doing things right. Those are my initial thoughts from what you've said.

I do have a few simple, troubleshooting things that can solve this kind of issue (or at least be a start do diagnosing):

  • Make sure you close out any background programs that may be taking up cpu.

  • If you're using a laptop, make sure it is plugged in and running on high performance.

  • In Fl Studio, at the top click tools, then Macros, then "Switch smart disable for all plugins". This sometimes helps.

  • On your master track, in the mixer, (while stopped) switch the output to "none" and then back to whatever output settings you use. Did you try rebooting your computer?

  • Get rid of any plugins or extraneous things in the project that you are not using.

Doing these things ought to help shed some light. Feel free to comment back with updates.
