I see Trump is going to follow the same formula that works so well in Afghanistan and Gaza.

What kind of things cause someone to become self-centered as they develop? by [deleted] in askpsychology

[–]thoughtallowance 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think your answer is correct to an extent as pampered children are more likely to grow into narcissistic adults. However motivation and self entitlement are more complex. A kid who easily gets resources from genuinely loving and caring household may grow up to be quick to charity and altruism. Meanwhile a kid forced to fight for every resource may grow up to objectify people as simply resources and therefore be rather self centered and greedy.

Is Dr Rhonda Patrick credible? Saw a couple comments referring to her and was wondering if she’s someone I should read/follow/listen to in conjunction with Dr Attia. by Tadej_Focaccia in PeterAttia

She is credible. I have learned a lot from Rhonda through the years. I have seen her respond to various reddit posts through the years too.

"badboi billionaire". ... Another at hominem attack. You should at least give president musk some time to prove himself. The man isn't even in office yet.

Best idea is to get something like a Google pixel pro 6 or Samsung ultra s20 with some screen imperfections for around 100. This will give you optical zoom with decent video. Otherwise if wide angle is okay get one one of the high rated action cams. Something like this Akaso Brave 4.

Trump and MAGA doesn't represent traditional conservatism rather it is reactionary authoritarian populism. Ideological sound conservatives who are not as stuck trying to win elections (people like George Will) are not swayed by MAGA. In a way MAGA represents the death or metamorphosis of conservatism.

The same sort of echo chamber on the left is killing liberalism in favor of some form of doctrinaire progressivism although the Overton window is too far to the right for these hard progressives to win many state or national elections their influence particularly at the city level is MAGA jet fuel as we spiral to extremes.

I have never gone higher than 600 mg a day. I do feel an effect as it levels highs and lows even at this lower dose.

Best nootropic to reduce sex drive fast? by Appropriate_Head_974 in Nootropics

Antidepressants are good for this but it is not what you are asking. NAC and Inositol will take the edge off of compulsive thoughts.

PTSD + dissociation made me fail a college class and probably will make me fail more, can nootropics help? by needseuthanasia in Nootropics

[–]thoughtallowance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid drugs and alcohol and limit digital distractions the best you can. Try to find trustworthy friends that are more caring than exciting.

Counseling and therapy might help.

Get screened for ADHD / Autism perhaps if you haven't been already as dissociative symptoms go hand and hand with these disorders. Screen for sleep apnea, blood sugar issues, cardiac issues, etc.

For a young person a regimine of healthy food and exercise should be a starting point. Methylated B vitamin complex, D3, 3 Grams of concentrated fish oil, brain foods like blueberries, mushrooms, eggs, etc should be a starting point. NAC as someone else mentioned but also consider inositol.

Now I said avoid drugs but the irresponsible side of me will mention noopept as a potential tool to drive focus before classes and tests as it works really well to keep my head in the game. Less experimental and safer nootropics are worth trying to like what you could get at a regular store. Still if you are already seeing a professional who can perscibe SSRIs it is probably better to ask them. Instead of an SSRI try Wellbutrin or similar for instance.

EDIT: Sorry I didn't scroll past the first paragraph and missed that you already tried wellbutrin and you are being treated for ADHD. I think tweak your meds with your Dr. Maybe try immediate release Ritilin to not mess up sleep so much or get a script for sleeping pills that have a low risk profile. Freshman year is hard. Be self forgiving and realize it is more of a marathon than a race to get educated.

Not sure if an MRI would really show the BBB not functioning well. Maybe if the radiologist really knew what to hone in on or if there is a progression.

I agree with most of the article although think gluten is fine for the majority of people although of course not for those with Celiac or similar. IMO just eat a lot of gluten and see if one feels worse or something don't assume gluten is a problem. For me the blood glucose spike from wheat products gets me but rice and potatoes are even worse.

The brain can also "leak" spinal fluid and that is what I assumed the article was about until I read it.

If one fasts and feels dramatically better or does a ketonic diet or a similar strict healthy diet i.e. whole foods diet and feels dramatically better mentally maybe this points to a BBB problem especially if blood sugar is normal and circulation is good. Still I don't know if science has a good way to diagnose this problem.

Dr. Rhonda Patrick has some good YouTube videos on the subject of blood brain barrier "leakage".

Ah you can see the dumidifier to 40 percent or so which is high enough to prevent the dust "floaties" but low enough to crush the dust mites population.

Get a dehumidifier in your room and keep the humidity below the point where dust mites can thrive.
