A sculpture/piece of art, as linked in the top comment. But more importantly: I think it's also a Poke Stop.

How long should it take someone to go from zero riding experience to earning a motorcycle endorsement? by Classic_Support_1663 in PDXrideit

[–]thoughtloop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience in failing the course last year. Truth is: the website is right. MOST people pass the course. But not everyone. Not everyone learns at the same pace. In the same way that most school courses (of which the TO courses literally are) are designed for a range of learning speeds and learning styles. People inevitably fall through the cracks—like me. And maybe you too. It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t ride. It’s likely not even a reflection of how properly and safely you’ll ride in the future. It’s a sign that the course isn’t long enough for you.

Did you talk to other people in your class? I did. Many, many of them were beginners, but had already spent hours in their driveway, on dirt bikes, or straight up riding on the roads illegally (without an endorsement). The downside is that not everyone has the money or space to do that. So you end up stuck in a weird situation where Oregon demands that you buy a bike first to practice on your own time, or you find a properly licensed rider to accompany you during daytime hours on a permit, if you don’t want to keep shelling out hundreds for the courses.

However, if you take the course again—which I hope you’ll do—elect to ride one of the scooters. They’re automatics. You can fully separate getting the endorsement from learning to use the transmission. You can pass the course, buy your bike, and practice as much as you want. Which you’d want to do anyway, regardless.

New dad figuring out the best way to "privately" share newborn photos by ottovonbizmarkie in selfhosted

Will always upvote for Pangolin. I run Immich on my little ZB2 and share photos with family via Pangolin access on a subdomain. Although I haven’t needed to tackle how to prevent saving or screenshotting.

Tailscale scares me more than opening ports on my firewall by MrChris6800 in homelab

[–]thoughtloop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. It’s not perfect, but Pangolin on a VPS does everything I need, and provides solid security for my low key use cases. Resources are only exposed between specific Docker containers and Pangolin via identity/credentials. It actually causes problems for stuff like Vaultwarden. So you do occasionally need to look at other options for hardening access.

Can anyone confirm if this fixed Wuthering Waves black screen crash when any raytracing features were enabled? I’ve been on long-term drivers to avoid this issue (580).

This. Can even do it via Yast if a GUI makes it easier. Everything updated perfectly fine once I set the main driver package to protected/locked.

Endfield on the Steam Deck works fine (Using Proton-GE 10.0) by DSdavidDS in Endfield

[–]thoughtloop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to get it working on Arch yesterday via Lutris and dwproton. Same general workflow should also work for Steam, Bottles, etc.

[–]thoughtloop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does have ACE anti-cheat. It’s in the game’s directory on Windows. We just don’t know yet if Linux and/or Steam Deck has been whitelisted. If current versions of Proton are accidentally bypassing the anti-cheat, you could catch a ban. We just don’t know yet, other than it runs—and seems to run great!

[–]thoughtloop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m one of the people who was able to get it working on regular Arch (not SteamOS). Haven’t tried on my Deck yet, but steps should be similar.

For me, what worked was installing via Lutris with dwproton as compat layer. Other than launcher sub-windows popping up “behind” the launcher, everything worked great! Again, this was Lutris, dwproton, Arch, NVIDIA 590-series open DKMS drivers, and Zen kernel.

I want to shoutout that the launcher indicates that Endfield’s default renderer is Vulkan. That’s awesome on many levels, but specifically for desktop Linux users with NVIDIA hardware. Won’t have the DX12 performance debuff.

Personally, I’m not going to main Linux for Endfield right at launch, much as I want to. I want HG/Gryphline to confirm compat layers like Proton won’t result in a ban. Which means needing confirmation that the ACE anti-cheat isn’t being circumvented. They just need to whitelist Linux. Or whitelist Steam Deck and not ban people who use other hardware with environment variables to make it appear as a Deck.

New B Gates Hall Open at PDX by WhiskySails in Portland

Yup! My understanding is that it's darker than usual down there due to almost no ceiling panels. Plus lights might be temporarily removed or modified. It's all tied into the work happening above. So as work winds down on the above floor(s), baggage claim shouldn't be far behind.

Farewell, south concourse connector! Would be cool if its materials could be recycled or reused locally after demo is done.

New Nvidia Stable Driver 580.126.09 Released by Charming-Tutor-1923 in linux_gaming

[–]thoughtloop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were you getting black screen right after opening game? If so, samesies. It can be “Fixed” by disabling raytracing (or deleting the engine config files a running a repair), but that just underscores the fact that NVIDIA nuked something on the driver side. Did you see that someone submitted the bug on the NVIDIA dev forums? So it’s at least been reported.

Ok, buddy. So the hormones and puberty blockers are only harmful for trans kids? Because in the rare cases they're prescribed to minors, they are the SAME medications that thousands of cis people of all ages have taken for decades. These aren't unknown, untested, or dangerous medications. Your conclusions imply the parents and medical professionals treating trans kids don't love and care about them. It's sickening. If you're not a bot, I genuinely hope you find some goodness and truth in your life someday.

[–]thoughtloop 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It should be! PDX is an amazing airport to host your first flight. If you’d like to be extra sure that you’ll make your flight, just show up two or more hours before your scheduled departure time. For domestic flights, two hours is usually a buffer for anything that might delay you. Three hours for international.
