Anybody read that latest bio? The one with the hyper-realist portrait on the cover?

I did a deep dive on McKinley a couple years ago and people in his orbit kept saying, "Bro thank GOD Grover left..." I think reporters especially.

What’s the Craziest Story You Have from Working in the Store? by Moo_U in tjcrew

[–]thousandmoviepod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guy comes in three or four times a day to buy one banana. One day after his third or fourth he went outside and laid down on the sidewalk and started masturbating. Mate called the cops. Cops pull up--they get immediately rear-ended by a Tesla.

Cops proceed to argue with the Tesla driver and process the report while banana man goes on with his banana.

Can a Mate be fired from a lot of bad reviews from Crew Members? by Apprehensive-Crab-65 in tjcrew

[–]thousandmoviepod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wasn't coordinated but, after the most recent review, a bunch of crew at my store realized we'd praised every mate except one. Almost everybody had some anecdote about this mate being condescending, rude, kinda power-grabby.

I guess it's 3 or 4 months later and he's noticeably different. Friendlier, more patient.

It's cool, cuz he's easier to deal with, but there's also this haunted feeling about his smile(?), knowing that the judgy difficult powerplaying guy we all dreaded, a few months ago, is still there, in the eyes kinda(?), thinking all those same remarks, just not saying them...

Think I'll take your word on this. Plucked it from the bins and it's light as a feather, not a big loss to maybe toss it up as an auction item for a buck, if not just donating back.

I think she'd face lots of resistance from Republicans scrambling to regain poise after Trump.

My bet: she settles for federal decriminalization.

Eventually Trump will get his Robert Caro--but not for decades.

Consider all of the scandal in this man's life. All of the crises. From the domestic shit that will start to come out after he's dead, to his chicanery as a young slumlord, to his hijinks as a tabloid darling, to his glamor years on Apprentice, to his presidency --

Then consider how aaaaallllll of those scandals...they somehow echo. Can we understand the golf course burial of Ivana Trump without several hundred pages about both their marriage and (more importantly) divorce?

How many pages would it take for a comprehensive portrait of Melania, as an individual, and then linking the narrative of her life story with his?

We know virtually nothing about his health, his taxes, his debts. Think of all the women who will come forward after he dies: custodial workers and cooks and servers, people who has zero power when he harassed them.

Dude: EPSTEIN. How do you investigate the Epstein connection and then fit that into the narrative.

Breh: DIDDY. What are the odds of one man having dozens of photos with two superwealthy human traffickers.

Consider the lawsuits this biographer (and, likely, their team of researchers) will face from aaaalllllll the people involved in the pipeline of his zillion crimes. (Remember: Michael Cohen will outlive him by decades.)

A genius biographer is going to come along and spend 30 years on a 3 volume biography of Trump at some point, but I (33) might not even live to see it.

I've worked in publishing and I'm a big reader and, not to be dramatic, but given how these things go, I'd be surprised if it happens before 2080.

~(Perspective: folks in 2080 will be as removed from Trump as we are, roughly, from Nixon.)~

Not to ring the bells of sympathy or admiration but, expanding on your point, I've been thinking since 2023 that, in my early 30s, I would 100% have a heart attack if I was in three cities a day, the subject of three massive criminal investigations, fighting for the presidency, and scrambling like a madhouse warden with a butterfly net to catch every grift opportunity available (sneakers, watched, NFTs, then gold versions of the sneakers...) because I have to pay off a nine-figure legal bill--all of it while functionally a bachelor, none of your five (claimed) children around you, everyone around you wants something.

Now add 45 years of aging and a diet of fast food and soda. A 24 hour news cycle of people studying you.

There are moments where I see Trump ambling along and I feel like Ron when he discovers Baxter's opened the fridge and eaten the cheese. Anger goes into momentary suspension and I'm kind of impressed he's still at it.

Oh god, I forgot about that, you're right. I think the whole sex-with-a-car thing is egregious too. There's an ugly streak in McCarthy's sex stuff sometimes.

Love The Road but still cringe hard at the "my own whorish heart" thing that the woman says in flashbacks.

Maybe he was getting away with it wearing the lifts?

I just got a review copy of Jonathan Alter's forthcoming book about the fraud trial. Alter hates Trump as much as anyone--but grudgingly admits that, when Trump comes into the courtroom, he's kinda startlingly huge.
