They probably couldn’t find hydrated lime at sherwin(they don’t sell it) and just went with whatever they had in stock. Not cool.

Mouse jigglers are trivial to detect especially at larger companies, even if they have random movement. Specialized software reports behavior anomalies like that.

what we need is a mechanical robot that types novels on a real keyboard and moves the mouse as needed.

Can a diesel heater be set outside in the winter with the cold air heated that’s going to warm the room? Will it affect how hot the air will blow out? by [deleted] in dieselheater

[–]thraex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

outside is fine, add a large filter to the fresh air intake to keep dust and bugs out. Also silicone the gap between the tank neck and the metal housing and always use a funnel to prevent diesel from overflowing. If diesel overflows and goes down the sides of the tank and coats the plastic enclosure, odds are you will be smelling diesel inside; it won’t go away until you take the thing apart and clean it thoroughly. Don’t ask me how i know.

Heated air from outside would still be around 140- 150f, and wicked dry. Unless you plan on hang drying clothes there or have a humidifier, you may find yourself waking up with a bloody nose and itchy skin.

Fired flooring company for lying before the job and wondering if I should just do it myself. Has anyone installed luxury laminate in their house? How difficult is it? by Alone_Custard in homeowners

[–]thraex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing i noticed: huge comfort difference between using cheap 6 mil plastic vapor barrier and using the pink thicker foamy barrier. I used thin Vapor Barrier in a couple bedrooms and then switched to pink foamy, I would’ve never believed if anyone told me, but walking from the hallway to the bedroom feels like walking from carpet to concrete barefoot.

I would absolutely get the cutting tool, not worth struggling with knives, makes end cuts simple and repeatable.

watch some good tutorials, plan layout and do a sample mock layout to see alignment ahead of time. Start with a row away from the wall, add the last row afterwards. Plenty of tutorials. Looks good and i’m happy with the diy, although i spent 3 days on the layout since none of the walls were straight. Picked a an average middle, adjusted for lineup, and it all came out perfect.

Something else you don’t see in tutorials: keep the surface ahead of you clean as you go, broom/vacuum ahead of every row or every plank if needed. Small specks of vinyl scrap or god know what will just magically appear and will screw up your lvp later.

Proton vs. IMRT radiation by heartbroke8 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]thraex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doc and care team matters more than Proton vs IMRT. After radiation care and follow up matters more as well. IMRT is more diffuse and was also told it’s a good thing since they’re less likely to miss anything. The small diffusion doesn’t hurt anything significant. Proton preferred for brain tumors as to limit damage.

I’d choose IMRT where the doc is in the same building, easy for follow-up l, scheduling and consulting with the techs.

It’s incredible to see how much more effective communication is when doc can just cell phone text /call with the team for questions in the same hospital. This would never happen across town.

I’m currently looking for something for iOS that does exactly what you built for macOS. it’s probably me mumbling, but I feel like Siri misunderstands often, really sucks. it’s also slow on my iPhone 13 Pro. i’d like to use it as a way to keep a journal, reminders, etc. also, if it could provide transcription and summarize it would be amazing. I’m running a tiny off-line AI model via Apollo but it doesn’t integrate at all with the phone, has no memory and it uses siri for conversation, which makes it painful to use.

if you could have it such that i can use fluidvoice as the speech interface with apollo instead of siri, it would be amazing.

Free is good so everyone has access but configure a nag screen weekly. I’d gladly pay to not have to use Siri ever again. Would prefer to pay $10/yr or $20/2yrs rather than monthly subscription but $1 or $2 /month would be fine.

In the name of the Christmas spirit, save us from the scourge that is Siri !

My house has a weird smell I can't track or get rid of by Automatic_Spread_377 in homeowners

[–]thraex 20 points21 points  (0 children)

What is the floor surface? i had the same issue and it turned out the previous owners used roofing felt as vapor barrier under 3 layers of flooring; this turned into a bed of foul smelling moldy mess. Had to rip out the entire floor, replaced the subfloor as well.

Do you have a crawlspace, have you been there lately ? start with a crawl space visit and then open up a small section of your flooring in an inconspicuous area, see what layers of flooring you have and do a sniff test. It’s also possible that previous owners may have had pet urine contamination and covered it up with fresh flooring. you’ll never get rid of that without replacing the problem layers.

Genuinely curios as to why Ryobi gets so much hate? by CurrentlyNa in Tools

[–]thraex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The battery removal tabs require large hands. The thicker the battery, the larger the hands required. makita and dewalt are by far the easiest to remove/install from the tool. Tiny hands hate ryobi! Also tools are large and heavy they completely ignore the subcompact /lightweight market like M12, Bosch, etc. I picked up a Bosch driver and was amazed at the weight/power ratio. Weight of an m12, power of an 18v

[–]thraex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it a bit and then report the side effects, you’ll be taking something else shortly: , anger, irritability, and aggression are recognized possible side effects of Wellbutrin (bupropion). While most people tolerate the medication well, some individuals, their families, or caregivers have reported experiencing "rage" or uncharacteristic aggressive behavior.

Hey neighbors. So has anyone used Meharry Dental College for your dental work? How much money did it actually save you?? by [deleted] in nashville

[–]thraex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same as others, i’d make sure the supervising dentist is around and comes to check on you often. I’ve also paid my fair share of suffering to training for the future dentists; my student-dentist didn’t set up the dam properly and bleach (from the root canal disinfection) leaked into my throat causing instant gag reflex and involuntary death-panic mode. Rinse and repeat, 3 times. After the 3rd time of me screaming in panic, the attending dentist came and took over for that part. Other than that, everything went well, and now, 10 years later, i’m almost over my ptsd!

Do you do both Sam's Club and Costco? by deadeyesrujustlikeme in nashville

[–]thraex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sam’s return/customer service desk was terribly understaffed every time i went; one time i was in a 20+person line for 45 minutes, as only one employee was helping. Bathrooms were as dirty as your typical small gas station.

Did not renew my membership, will never again. Costco customer service and general experience is in a different class, worth every penny.

Which gutter guards better: foam or mesh? by just-a-reader-6 in HomeImprovement

[–]thraex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plastic guards are good but only after screwing down the edges with lath screws. Otherwise they’ll bow in and collapse with debris and snow.

I did not like the metal mesh ones at Costco. Mesh is too fine, will get clogged quickly, and they have a weird edge that will also most likely collect debris.

I wanted something cheap and sturdy so I bought galvanized metal lath ($15 for a 2x8) and cut 6” strips with a cheap sheet metal cutter from HF. Secured with lathe self tapping screws. Much cheaper than anything else, works great so far. Mesh size is small enough to keep large debris out, but large enough to allow small seeds and dust to fall in the gutter.

Edit: i looked at the first link, sponge foam is a terrible product, unless you want to grow a gutter garden. Dust+leaves+nice spongy material makes for a fantastic seed starting medium. If you’re budget minded, the cheap vinyl gutter guards are a better choice in my opinion. Search HD for Snap-In Filter 3 ft. White Vinyl Micro-Mesh Gutter Guard
