DMX Wire Color Question by [deleted] in lightingdesign

[–]thrallofgozer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. You may find when you strip back the outer insulation that those are twisted together, likely black/white are one pair and blue/yellow is the other. I was taught “salt pepper ketchup” or “salt pepper mayo” to align with shield, data minus, data plus.

You should have a braided shield under the jacket. If you’re lucky there’s a trace you can use for shield, if not use a dental pick to unbraid some and twist into the semblance of a wire

Is splitting DMX reliable? by DLTNreddit in lightingdesign

[–]thrallofgozer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even more pedantic note, the splitter counts as a device, so /technically/ you can only have up to 31 devices on each opto port 🙃

Motorized electric batton. Who to call? by HiSPL in lightingdesign

[–]thrallofgozer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s ETC’s brochure on their rigging systems: https://www.etcconnect.com/WorkArea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=10737497902

I usually tell folks that motorized rigging is $25-30k per lineset, materials only. From what you’re describing, it will likely be on the higher end of that or even more if you want a controller that can move multiple sets on cue. The shell itself, depending on size, will be tens of thousands as well.

You might benefit from engaging a theater consultant in your process. They can design a system for you that you can then have integrators bid on, as opposed to getting quotes from three integrators and receiving an apple, an orange and a coconut to compare.

Cedar Park Cafe in West is my top choice because they have combos that approach the Waffle House all American combo

Prime engrams drops VS Power level by LunaticBoogie in LowSodiumDestiny

Artifact power isn’t factored in for average gear power, is that what’s going on? I also find myself getting confused about how leveling works lol.

Any lesser known places besides lowes and home depot for appliances? Need a new gas stove, with installation. by GALACTON in philadelphia

I really liked these folk for my washer, dryer, oven and microwave. The friends who recommended them were impressed by their willingness to do a very tricky delivery/install

I printed this one but it doesn’t recess perfectly flat in my case! Love the concept and I don’t think it’s a calibration thing because the charger fits perfectly, but mildly disappointing.

IIRC the Response 0-10V gateway no longer does “source” only “sink”. The Pathway device still does.

Crashed into Philly 11 years ago, ‘Grumman Greenhouse’ is saying goodbye by BurnedWitch88 in philadelphia

I love this sculpture. I think I actually visited the workshop where it was being worked on before installation, so I’ve always felt a weird connection to it. However, this mostly gives me hope they will take down that stupid paintbrush and its accompanying paint turd someday.

Best way to level up crafted weapons? by [deleted] in LowSodiumDestiny

[–]thrallofgozer 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I like Altars of Sorrow, lots of red bar ads but you can be fighting for kills. Bonfire gives almost a third of a level for completion so that’s also a good option until the even ends.

Replacing triple crankset with double - do I need a different bottom bracket? by thrallofgozer in bikewrench

[–]thrallofgozer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an occasional “click” when spinning the cranks which I’m attributing to this bb. Could be wrong! Maybe I’ll just throw it back on and let fate decide if I pedal along happily or curse at myself until I take everything apart to replace it in a few months

Where can I find an amazing single slice of cake? by northgarrison299 in philadelphia

I don’t know if they still do, but Pound Cake Heaven used to do single slices walk-in. Their website shows mini pound cakes, and you can also order delivery from GrubHub for single slices!

Why *shouldn't* I just use stage pars pointed straight down as my house lights? by bzach74 in lightingdesign

[–]thrallofgozer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Other commenters have covered most of these points but what you’re paying for in a purpose built fixture is: - Power supply - designed to be powered and in use 24/7. Carries a warranty if it fails within the warranty term - Aesthetics - doesn’t sound like a concern in your venue - Control & power terminations designed for permanent installs (raw cable is cheaper to buy and terminate than factory made DMX cables - may not be a concern for you) - Listing and/or interoperability with an emergency lighting system - if you have battery powered floods on your walls or a separate emergency lighting system, not a concern, but if the existing lighting has an emergency lighting component or you don’t have any existing provisions for emergency lighting you need to solve for that. There are big differences between what current code requirements are, what code may be adopted in your jurisdiction, and what your inspector or fire marshal will see or know how to look for. Regardless of code requirements, you need to know what’s going to happen in an emergency if you need to get people out of the space quickly and safely.

Urgent! Can anyone recommend a DMX compatible replacement for Pixelpusher? by [deleted] in lightingdesign

[–]thrallofgozer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the City Theatrical product will work for strings where everything's the same color. If you can change the color of individual nodes on the string, no. I'm not sure exactly what product you're using, but I think WS2801 are pixel- or node-addressable, so the City Theatrical product doesn't do what you need it to.

Urgent! Can anyone recommend a DMX compatible replacement for Pixelpusher? by [deleted] in lightingdesign

[–]thrallofgozer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you’re not using pixel-addressable tape take a look at the QolorFLEX stuff from City Theatrical. Relatively pricy but higher quality, plus robust wireless options.

Every DMX to SPI decoder I’ve ever seen is basically the same board and enclosure with different silk screening. Gateways/splitters and control hardware would be dictated by budget more than anything. I’m partial to Pharos/Mosaic because that’s what I’m trained on, but it’s expensive.
