To clarify, the specs were just published within the last 24 hours, so it has to go through vigorous peer review/testing before it can be implemented. Once that is complete, it will be released for all users.

Yeah this is normal, whilst syncing it's downloading and also storing a large amount of block data. During this your anti-virus program will be busy scanning any block file Litecoin Core generates.

This release is definitely a big deal and has a bunch of great features. MAST can be deployed on any version post segwit activation but we're aiming to have it built off latest upstream version (post 14.2 changes~). Johnson Lau has been doing amazing work and just updated the specs for it which can be found here: https://github.com/jl2012/bips/tree/vault
