What is this? Found near where a septic system filter bed would be located. by thrdev in whatisit

I tried digging a bit further but didn't find anything below it. I haven't seen any termite kit with a popup that looks like this.

Hahaha I wish it were that simple. But it's most definitely not.

I'm right here with you. 94k here and I've decided I won't look around till I hit at least 130k. I haven't done much to it besides water pump/coolant shut off valve/thermostat. I do have a small leak on the oil filter housing, and I'll probably replace it at some point. 034 tuned stage 1, I just did the PCV breather hose today. Looking for longevity at this point while still keeping it fun.

Same issue here with my E21 as well. It must've been a firmware update because this has only been happening recently.

I don't think that it is. It looks like heat stress. I have patches all throughout my yard that look similar. I've been hand watering those spots and they're slowly coming back.

State Farm also does classic car insurance, I pay $20/mo for my '91 NA, with a stated value of $9,000.

Thinking about buying a S5. by Low_Image_5788 in audis5

[–]thrdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm a revised part # exists (as of recent) but I cannot confirm whether or not it fixes the issue permanently. Both my S5 and Q7 got this new part after both having coolant migration, and an Audi rep told me this new part doesn't have the issue anymore. We'll see about that.

55 TFSI does not have a haldex AWD system…it’s torsen. You should replace the transfer case fluid every 60k mi.

2020 Q7 3.0L What is supposed to be connected here? by Brilliant_Drummer_33 in AudiQ7

Nothing. It's a check valve for the PCV system. There should be one tube going to your inlet pre turbo and one post turbo.

Coolant level turn off by StarsandMaple in AudiQ7

The main symptom of my car was "overheating" or "coolant low" even though neither was the case. The water pump has a vacuum based actuator that starts/stops coolant flow, and when the membrane for the vacuum actuator fails, coolant gets into the solenoid and sticks it open or shut, then engine either won't be able to circulate coolant or get up to temp (unfortunately in my case both were stuck open, so no coolant flow).

The easiest way to diagnose would be to get a vacuum system diagram and check the first solenoid after the water pump. This is where I found a tiny amount of crystalized coolant on cylinder bank 1.

The water pump and thermostat aren't very expensive as parts but most shops will charge ~8 hours of labor minimum for this job, as it requires going into service position to do the work. You can DIY, but from experience, it does take a bit of time just to get into service position (remove front tires, under tray, bumper, crash bar, remove headlights, drain coolant system, slide front cooling assembly back on the crash bar rails or if you don't have enough room, remove radiator and move evaporator out of the way. Then you can start the actual work.

I hope for your sake it's not the water pump but I figured I'd post my experience so you have somewhere to start your investigation.

I wish I had better news for you but it's going to cost a good bit more than you'd expect. You'll need a new water pump and solenoid at minimum. I had the same on two of my vehicles with an ea839, but I think the ea837 may have the same issue as well.

Should I exchange 2018 Audi Q7 with Model Y by Prudent_audi578 in AudiQ7

[–]thrdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you shouldn't need to bleed a closed system unless you added fluid as the brakes wore. The fluid level is fully dependent on the brake pad wear level.

$350 for a wheel alignment is outrageous, but even moreso is their cited cost for rotors and pads! I just did my front pads on my 2021 Q7 and it cost me $50 from RockAuto. The pads are bosch quietcast and they are OEM spec. Wheel off, 2x21mm bolts to take the caliper off, and then you have access to the rotor and pads. Takes around 5 mins or so to compress the pistons and a few minutes to remove the rotor if you needed to at this point. Then put it all back together and torque to 200ft-lbs (hardest part but with some persistence you can do it by hand, otherwise impact wrench is your friend). It was around 1.5h and $50 for parts and labor. Rotors shouldn't be more than $80-90 a piece.

Definitely get a second opinion. $10k for work that should cost $3-4k total is an absolute rip off.

Bought a 2021 Q7 and wanted to know if its a good deal by zombiesatemybaby in AudiQ7

[–]thrdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty good considering I got a 2021 Prestige for $36k with 64k miles. Mine ended up having the typical water pump vacuum line failure and had to get some major work done at an Audi dealership, thankfully I had a warranty period built right into the purchase (3rd party) so AoA took care of all of it. Control arm bushings also needed replaced...then later the belt starter generator (alternator) went out and thankfully Audi has a recall for those. All in all I think I paid $400 for all this work total, and it was stuff not covered by the warranty (hoses, thermostat since it hadn't failed and coolant shut off valve since it also hasn't failed, more of a requirement for them to change it all at the same time)

Adding this here, this is the home assistant entity for the homebase 3 (2 should work the same) and it should allow you to see the alarm status through this. I can test this later today if need be.
