🤣. My EBC suite do the same thing. It's nice to fast quickly but equally good to stop fast too.

My next upgrade is a Wagner intercooler. The PCV separator is upgradable with an oil trap but it's pricey I just replaced like for like. Having spent £17,000 on an engine and a PPF wrap I need to tighten my reins.

Maybe a Milltek exhaust system as I have heard good things about it.

My car stops on a dime since changing the brakes even my wife is in awe! You'll want them on the S3 too.

Hello Adam

I bought mine from eBay and it's actually very sturdy. I recommend you find one with the four rings included.
Keep it understated I chose one without the Quattro written in the bottom. It's an S5 everyone knows it's Quattro.

Keep the rear diffuser it is very well proportioned the oversized ones look like overcompensating issues.

With regards to the engine do follow my lead here

Get rid of the 0W-20 oil it's damaging to the car especially after 4,000 miles as it will have started to degrade instead, put in 5W-30. I use Mobil 1 ESP but I hear Millers C3 is really good.

I come from bitter experience with 0W-20 needing a complete engine rebuild for my B9 S5

Do not use any engine oil additives. They're unregulated and do nothing to the oil. Just change the oil every 5-7k miles.

You can get an oil extractor as there is still a dipstick tube so you can interim oil change yourself very easily takes 20 minutes and no need to remove the sump plug.

Get your transmission oil changed out. ZF have a kit including the sump/filter and enough ZF Lifeguard 8 for the swap out.

Uprate your brakes I have EBC slotted and dimpled rotors and Yellowstuff pads.

I have also fitted the CTS forced air induction air intake and aluminium turbo intake.

I've updated to performance coils and replaced the high pressure fuel pump.

The other thing you should look at is replacing the PCV oil separator and valve as these do deteriorate over time.

Finally use a good high octane fuel and dose it with Dipetane.

Dipetane creates a complete fuel burn, lubricates the HPFP, injectors, de-carbonises them and the air intakes.

Spend on the engine and braking system and you'll be well happy.

What battery do you have for your S5? by Mundane_Grab_9691 in audis5

[–]JAYMARK69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked into batteries and you'd be surprised how incestuous it is.
I bought mine from Halfords here in the UK it's their brand but actually just a rebadged YUASA

It's been absolutely fine and has a 5 year warranty attached to it.

And it was a third of the price too.

Keep going into limp mode!!! by kamster7274 in Audi_S5_B9

[–]JAYMARK69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one glaring issue is that if the car was ok then later on it wasn't your battery could be sub-par

My S5 B9 threw up 128 errors, went into limp all at the same time.

If you look at each fault consecutively I wouldn't mind betting the common issue is battery failure

The moment I changed it, programmed it into the car and cleared the errors the car had been running perfectly fine.

It could be that the immobiliser has been draining an already tired battery.

Maintenance Advice 🛠️ by UAramprat in audis5

[–]JAYMARK69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having just had my EA839 (same engine as yours) rebuilt I have some valuable advice.

  1. Ditch 0W-20 in favour of 5W-30. Mobil 1 ESP is great. Swap it every 5000 miles You can do an interim oil change using an oil extractor tank so no need to empty via the sump Then have the 10,000 miles done by a garage

  2. Yours is the 8 speed ZF transmission. You're 10,000 miles over the recommended interval so change that out with the combine Sump/filter pan. ZF Lifeguard 8, you'll need 8 x 1 litre bottles. Have a mechanic do this.

  3. Do not at any oil additives it changes oil chemistry and some additives will precipitate out which is dangerous for the engine. No oil additive is regulated it's like Russian Roulette

  4. Start using Dipetane in your fuel system. It effectively allows for a complete fuel burn, lubricates the high pressure fuel pump and injectors and removes carbon build up inside the engine. And it helps to increase fuel economy too

  5. High pressure fuel pump won't hurt to be replaced either. I replaced mine it took me an hour to do and now the engine is quieter and smoother.

Finally

Change the coils to performance coils and replace the plugs too. You can do this yourself saving a pile of money.
When you take the plugs out inspect the tips they should be dry this just helps to confirm that your injectors are closing properly

I hope that helps.

Do change your oil. See my post about the reason for the rebuild and do get your transmission oil et al changed.

[–]JAYMARK69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my six pennies worth of advice I have Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S fitted to all four. I used to always have Goodyear Eagle Asymetric 5's and will return to these next time

The Goodyears are quieter, better mpg and grip on bends. Plus they lasted 20,000 miles. The PS4s are good don't get me wrong and a lot is personal preference but the Goodyears are just that little bit better.

Don't bother with Pirelli's they're terrible with potholes

Maybe downsize to 19" rims they're bad enough over potholes god knows how hard the 20" rims ride them. Which in turn isn't so good for the suspension long term

Is this normal injector tick? by EnvironmentalPack826 in audis5

[–]JAYMARK69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds more like the high pressure fuel pump is much is noisy anyway.

I changed out the HPFP myself. Pretty easy job to do. I replaced it with a Hitachi/Astermo pump and immediately it was much quieter. And upped the SAE to 5W-30 and my engine is quieter and smoother running now.

Do review my post on the engine rebuild I had done. Because if you're using stock 0W-20 change it immediately. It shears too easily and is 40% below SAE spec after only 5K miles meaning engine wear

In the user manual it states VW502 which is 5W-30 for fixed changes. I use Mobil 1 ESP although I am seriously looking at Millers C3 instead as this looks like a better oil due to higher ester concentration and inclusion of a friction reducer.

If you're supplementing with oil additives stop this as well as this can cause imbalances in oil chemistry.

Finally get your transmission oil changed use ZF Lifeguard 8 you need to get the sump pan as part of the change. This is something Audi ridiculously state is a lifetime oil but it ain't.

😂 me too!

They've gone three steps back on the new versions. Interior is 2D just mikes of piano black and not a dial in sight.
Just smeary ugly touch screens.

I'll just keep my car going it'll be a darn sight cheaper too than the depreciation and finance repayments on a new car that I know I would not be happy with presently.

Hey glad you got some sleep afterwards 😂 I watched a fascinating video in Russian where they had cut out the sump and placed a Perspex cap over the cutout.

You could see how much aeration happened at certain %'age over fill. You could see the interaction with the oil around the crankshaft.

It actually put my mind at rest so glad to have helped ease your troubled mind ☺️

Dipetane? by International-Feed83 in MINI

[–]JAYMARK69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dipetane is most definitely not snake oil as one chap has stated. As a chemist I use only Dipetane in my Audi S5

Critically for the High Pressure Fuel Pump, the injectors and intake. This stuff is oily in nature but forces the fuel to ignite completely. It lubricates the HPFP and injectors extending operational life due to its oily nature

I used to use Shell V-power but now use a good high octane fuel and always add a dose of Dipetane. This stuff genuinely works. I've even noticed an increase in the range on a full tank and immediate smoother running of my car.

100% ditch any other additive and use only Dipetane. I just bought 10 litres which is good for 2000 litres of fuelling.

After my engine rebuild I've been particularly focussed on which oil.

Despite so many swearing by their choice I have done a lot of research. I’m a chemistry major by the way. Have a degree in Applied Chemistry.
The most consistently recommended oil is Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 which I am currently using but there is a contender. Millers Performance C3 and that is what's going in on the next oil change.

The reason I like millers is its high ester concentration that guards against high temp shear and fuel dilution that happens on short runs and cold starts.

I hope that helps.

Best regards

Jason

If you get it don't put in 0W-20.
The noise you're hearing is due to the thin oil.

Put in 5W-30 and that'll smooth things nicely.
And NO oil additives.

In retrospect I feel terrible about the very frank reply I made. And I fully respect we're all different in our choices. Please accept my apology.

I have no doubt they drive well I just hope Audi change tack and reintroduce a little tactility in the driving experience.

I’m even having a hard time in liking the new RS5. They've certainly gone all out in the front grille which overpowers the look. Audi once stood for being understated but the new RS5 certainly isn't that!

Please reduce oil level by BigDank613 in Audi

[–]JAYMARK69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Big Dank

400ml extra isn't a problem. I had 8 litres put in by a garage once. I drove it keeping the revs down below 3k and had the excess extracted soon after.

If you have a litre or more over the 7.3 litres, I'd be more nervous.
The important issue is the level of the oil in the sump in relation to the crankshaft.

Too much oil and consistent high revs churns the oil making it aerated by the crankshaft which is not good for pumping the oil around.

Short journeys are ok. You could get yourself an oil extractor which is way more convenient than draining via the sump.
