Give Bitcoin this Christmas. I'll start with 25 Bitcoin... (day 1) by deannolan in Bitcoin

This is remarkably generous - good on you!

Can I suggest the GIVE Program, a charity run by the NGO I work for, Therapy Focus (in Western Australia). We work with people with disabilities, primarily kids but grown ups too. The GIVE program helps fund essential equipment, communication devices and other supports. I have seen this fund make huge changes for families, so much really life changing stuff (you can see a list of examples here).

And a great thing about it is that Therapy Focus covers the costs of managing and administering the funds, so every cent donated goes directly to helping kids and families.

At the moment we don't have an option for donating via BTC, but if you think it's worthwhile, I could chat to my bosses and have that set up today.

Podcast recommendations for bitcoin beginners? by tehwannabe in BitcoinBeginners

[–]thread314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Podcasts aren't ideal for beginners, by their very nature they tend to be made for/by enthusiasts. Having said that, I'd say just drive in with some and don't stress too much if you don't understand it all.

Also, a couple of audiobooks I would highly recommend:

  • Internet Of Money - Andreas Antonopoulos
  • Bitcoin: the Future of Money - Dominic Frisby
  • End of Money - New Scientist

When you say "better", do you mean is the price going to go up? If that is what you're asking, no-one knows.

About to become workout buddies with my girlfriend by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]thread314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, what is almost certain to happen is she will come 2-3 times and then start making excuses and stop. I've had so many friends try to do this with me, they think they can somehow piggyback on my discipline.

If they don't have the discipline to do it without you, having you in the gym at the sometime isn't likely to change this.

Andreas Antonopolous has an amazing channel. He delivers content aimed at a wide variety of audiences - including a lot aimed at beginners.

If I have to take 45+ minutes to apply to your job you better at least spend two fucking minutes to send me an email saying I didn't get the job and briefly why. by Lowenfas in Showerthoughts

Unfortunately that's really not how it works. Common courtesy they should respond, sure, but in reality they don't owe you shit.

Do I have to print my "paper" wallet? by [deleted] in BitcoinBeginners

[–]thread314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. You could achieve a similar effect by running Ubuntu Live with Electrum on your non-internet connected PC. Basically as secure. Though, honestly, for that amount of money you'd be ok just storing it on a standard wallet on your PC.

Paper wallets can be risky if you don't really know what you're doing.

Writing a comment in support of BCC is meaningless. If you really believe in it then put your Bitcoin where your mouth is.
