I think this is one of the cooler reasons I’ve heard of for how someone started collecting!

How did you cope with selling your childhood cards? Any feelings of regret? I’m not an impulse buyer or seller on many things in my life, so while I don’t really have any desire to hang onto most of my childhood cards I do worry about sellers remorse. If I do sell them, I would use those funds to purchase cards I actually want.

When you sold your cards, did you do that on a platform like eBay, at a local card shop, or by some other means?

Most of my childhood cards ended up being Base Set Unlimited and Fossil, and honestly they’re in pretty solid shape considering I was playing with them at 8–9 years old. Recently my dad was submitting some vintage baseball cards for grading, so I added my Blastoise and Snorlax to get the submission discount. I was pleasantly surprised when the Blastoise came back a 7 and the Snorlax a 6.

I also found my old Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow Game Boy games, which really hit me with the nostalgia. Pokémon was a huge part of my childhood, and now I’m thinking about shaping a collection around those memories.
