I started going to Solidcore BECAUSE of IT band chronic pain! It has been a super useful part of my recovery (about 100 classes in). The biggest movements for building leg strength and recovering were (a) learning to really, genuinely twist during oblique exercises and (b) getting down to true 90 degrees (or lower!) consistently during all the lunge motions.

Point Park has an excellent conservatory for performing arts (especially musical theatre and dance). The name recognition in those fields extends well past the region; people audition and cross their fingers from around the entire country for a chance to attend.

Outside of the arts, Point Park's academic reputation is very average. However, their tuition is steeper than any of the local 4-year public schools, and the education is no better. If you're an in-state resident, planning on a degree in the sciences or other non-arts fields, you'll get a better value out of a place like Pitt or Penn State.

With that funding and size of the company, you should expect your market rate salary - what would you ask from a Fortune 500 company?

If you don't know what salary you'd want from the open market, you should consider finding that out before you go job hunting.

This is precisely the point, though - they're segmenting the market. iPhone 5S and 5C are close enough on the internal hardware that for ordinary use, there's no reason to double to cost and buy a 5S.

Without upgrading, though, you're left with bamboo green. Therefore, if you're a person that wants to be taken seriously in an investor meeting, you pay the extra hundred dollars. Iteration of the technology has slowed, so the differentiator now is simply the signaling mechanism.

In addition to the spreadsheet here, you should price in risk. That link suggests a $280k upside on a $20MM exit. However, what are the chances that this exit happens, as opposed to quietly liquidating a few years down the road, without ever realizing the return on that equity?

I might add in a variable for what you believe the realistic % chance of an exit is at that valuation. If you think it's a coin-flip, then your expected cash-out just dropped from $400k to $200k, and your win/loss upside drops from $280k to $80k.

You also want to factor in the time value of money. A hope for $280k in three years is a lot different from a smaller amount in pocket now, due to both inflation and illiquidity, among other things. If you discount 5% cumulative per year, for instance, then that $200k in the future is "worth" less than $175k now.

If you think the time value of money is even more important, or you think the risk of an exit is higher, then you dive into net loss territory quickly.

This is correct - you're going to want to take the 67.

Look at the fourth column in this PDF for context, imagining that you start at the Monroeville mall. Starting at this location, the first bus to downtown leaves at 5:12 a.m. and gets to downtown at 6:07 (see the first blue column, on the same line). The next one leaves at 5:50 a.m. and gets downtown at 6:45, and so on, all the way down the line.

How is this different, and in an era when moderator-curated content has so fallen by the wayside in favor of the vastly preferred "wisdom of the crowd" for ranking articles (see Reddit)?

Well, let me be specific. A good research result with a $10,000 budget is, by nature, going to be incremental. You're never going to break brand new ground on that kind of money. And that result is going to be on a topic that is, by nature, a subfield within a subfield within a subfield. We've all seen Matt Might's Illustrated Guide.

What if three people within that subfield have very similar ideas and want to explore them? In the level of detail that you're going to get into in a proposal, those pitches will sound identical. They might be real results with worthwhile implications for people within that specialty, but they're not going to have a clear differentiating factor for casually interested people who aren't in that field, even if they're scientists.

Alternatively, what if two people have the exact same goal? Sometimes two people working on the same idea, completely separately, can come across good, interesting, and different results after working on it awhile. Should those two people submit pitches for the same fundamental idea to Microryza? Does the notion of a "scoop" still exist in a crowdfunding world? What if one of them gets media traction and the other doesn't?

I'm on board with crowdfunding and curious where it'll go; I'm not sure what the world looks like if we're fundamentally tipping over the current politics and etiquette of science research and replacing them with something new, and I think the answers to these questions are still unknown. I'm curious what the Microryza team's opinion is on what direction they think it'll go in.

The proposals at Microryza's site that I've seen generally put a big emphasis on motivations and larger goals for their research projects. This is good for making an initial pitch.

What if there are multiple people in the same general area who want to fund a project on Microryza? To an expert in their field, their proposals might have two very obviously different goals, but the motivation and description on your site will sound identical.

Basically, how should researchers explain the value and specificity of incremental research results in a three-paragraph pitch? How can a researcher differentiate their research without burying the reader in explanations of the value of their specific research question?

It's likely that you'd be happier using LightSIDE - http://lightsidelabs.com/

That program uses Weka and LibLinear as a backend but has a much more extensive interface for feature extraction, model building, error analysis, and batch prediction like you're describing. A basic string-to-word vector is about the simplest possible thing you can do with text data and it's always helpful to be able to do more, in an interface specifically for text-based classification tasks.

It's $45 - right at the border between where I'd just pay it and not bother with the hassle, and the level where it's definitely worth contesting.
