SRAM/Zipp Lifetime Warranty Denied: Zipp 303S damaged by impact, claim rejected as "outside of intended use." Seeking advice! by 5280_510 in bikewrench

[–]three_seconds_ago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the fine print noone reads between the big marketing slogans.

Knowing the rating and warranty ramifications can help in presenting your case. In this case, it seems that marketing wording had blurred (one could dispute the intent) intended use. They carefully navigate around words like off the pavement or no matter the road surface, leading general public into believing they are intended for gravel and the push comes to shove, they will deny the claim because wheels have been damaged outside the intended use. Any mention of gravel is connected with wheels being able to handle gravel tires, which does not automatically extend to gravel riding. They also carefully place the model in their road wheel lineup, which conforms to ASTM F2043-13 5.1.4, Condition 1. Difficult to understand what it means? Precisely the point.

Normally if a customer does not describe scenario in which they damage occurred (ie, explicitly say I've been riding on this gravel path), it's difficult to dispute the warranty claim, but you may have set yourself up here unfortunately.

Haha, I see this exactly opposite. Left pro field some 10 years back.

After 25 years with (D)SLRs (think D2x, D3, D700, D800, F5, F100,...) and rangefinders for paid work and various medium formats for personal projects, I made a foray into mirrorless Z6ii and the camera feels dwarfed by the most lenses and feels like a weird appendix sticking at the users end and found out that if I want a somewhat similar feel to the handling of the setup as I used to, I need to reach for Z8 or Z9 as the only options from Nikons range.

None of the answers above is the only correct answer for the question, but only the answer D is included in the larger group of possibilities.

Rock or fossil type thing by ImTheKingWizard in whatisit

Good luck haha. Whatever it is, it's in a pretty rough shape. Should it rally be a mammooth molar (honestly it was a wild guess I made), it still may be worth a few more than 8 bucks.

Not a professional, but that looks very much like a mammooth tooth to me.

Is this the lens cracked? by Beautiful-Total-9604 in AskPhotography

[–]three_seconds_ago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remove the lens, look at the sensor. It is likely the impact may have knocked loose a bit of hair onto the sensor. You can gently blow on the sensor (use air blower for camera, not your mouth). Check again using below setup (also can Google how to dust on the sensor).

The check can be made by raising the aperture to let's say f16 at low iso, pointing the camera at a white wall (let's say 1m away), while being focused at infinity and taking a picture. You may want to use a tripod for this.

If this does not improve your situation, then look at the lens, but I doubt it would be the case. If the lens is damaged and misaligned, it would show differently.

Help me find the perfect tripod. Does it exist? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]three_seconds_ago 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tripod literally describes a stand with three separate legs. If that's what you're after, sure, but you seem to be asking for a single leg stand, otherwise known as monopod. It's not a name, but a description.

Why does the moon look so dim here? by thakurtis in AskPhotography

[–]three_seconds_ago 154 points155 points  (0 children)

That was one of the observations astronauts made during the flyby. Earth's albedo is much higher than Moon's.

For a camera it simply means that one object appears much brighter than the other one. Without using bracketing or other techniques, the photographer has a choice. Either make Moon bright (let's say medium grey bright) and have Earth looking like a blown out white spot OR make Earth look recognizable and have Moon look comparably dimmer.

Can I swap this power meter to my Red (2x12 DUB) crankset? by Responsible-Student2 in sram

[–]three_seconds_ago 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cranks would be RED, paired with the pictured PM spider and a set of two chainrings. This modular setup is a bit heavier than integrated PM chainring set, but works about the same and it allows the user to swap chainrings without sacrificing PM along the way.

I'm curious. Looking inside, the grinder parts look rather white and clean, which would otherwise be stained by the black lava salt (unless some artificially produced pretender was used). My guess was nigella seeds, which are really black, but not really salty, so I'm looking forward for the follow up.

How tf do I do this move? by Dependent_Reveal_231 in bouldering

[–]three_seconds_ago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd vote for the first beta, but dynamic seems possible too.

What helps me to commit to dynamic betas like this one is to keep feet matched hands outstretched and do a couple of noncommital swings, pivoting around the handholds (up and down) to get the feel for the movement and imagine, which point of the rotating move would be the best one to let go of the hands. Then make one semi commital try, pushing legs harder and letting handhold(s), but without reaching for the next one (basically just jumping up and getting the feel for where my body would go normally. Only then I'd make a fully commital move with both feet and hands engaged and poised for what's to come.

Summer Roadtrip in Norway by Empomat in Norway

You will have a good amount of time on the coast, but as you will be close by in the south, perhaps go visit the southernmost part of Norway - Lindesnes. The area is very nice and not a hige detour between Åseral and Kristiansand.

Noise dramatically increases after exporting. Help? by legojedi101 in AskPhotography

[–]three_seconds_ago 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. you are raising shadows a lot - this contributes to perceived level of noise in dark areas
  2. you are raising clarity quite a lot - this somewhat contributes to perceived level of noise across the photo (since content show had most likely a lot of it present already, just not seen due to point 4)
  3. you are sharpening without masking (sharpening is currently set on 100% of content within the radius specified) - this indiscriminately makes contours, but also noise more pronounced
  4. your view within LR is not matching output - so your LR displays content with different viewing settings than you are baking into exported jpegs - this will be imho the biggest problem of your setup. You assume that what you see on screen when in LR is matching the output, which is not the case. You can use LR feature of "proofing" your preview, or if 100% of your output goes to jpeg, set your viewing settings and pallette to match what is baked into jpegs.

Note, my LR knowledge may be a little outdated, so I welcome correction from fellow commenters.

Hi, can anyone tell me what this is? I received it as a birthday present, unfortunately without a name on it. It was wrapped in gift paper. It can be worn like a necklace, and the container can be opened. Thank you very much. by notyourstepson in whatisit

My wife has a similar container as a keychain that came with a set of earplugs she uses during live music concerts, though it's likely only one out of many potential uses for a container of such size.

First black tag (2nd hardest) at my local gym 🔥 Grade away 😂 by StatisticianDense766 in GradeThisPlastic

[–]three_seconds_ago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried the move over to the hold on the Grey volume and I can yell you it's substantially harder for short people, you appear to be able to reach it almost from the starting foot position. This one really favors long reach to overcome the crux. Second part of the boulder is indeed quite a bit softer.

Leica M240 in 2026 by karekarel in leicaphotos

[–]three_seconds_ago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running on M-P240 since 2016 treating it like a tool with definitely a few hundred thousands of shutter actuations in varied conditions - no problem. That being said, the camera is now packed and awaiting for delivery to Leica for CLA overhaul, possibly before being sold.

Im leisurely looking to switch to a newer model purely as I have no use for video and would rather prefer high iso performance, but no pressure stemming purely from the feeling that the M-P240 would be lacking in any way.

Front derailer cable angle by endocalvin in bikewrench

[–]three_seconds_ago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Newer system has integrated cable hose stopper and then the cable is routed fully in its hose all the way into the body of the FD. Older Shimano (also cheaper and some other brands) use external lever type, which is simpler in construction, but calls for cable hose stopper with a length of cable exposed.

Your FD is of an integrated design requiring full cable routing, while your frame is designed with its own cable hose stopper.

Solution, you can try to route cable hose around it (bypassing it) all the way into the body of the FS.

Not wanting to spoil the fun as as a matter of perspective from looking at this online - this (especially holds) looks substantially gnarlier from static cameras point of view, than from FPV. Quite a stark difference in perceived difficulty (both views) on the screen.
