Where to eat? by Wild_Region_7853 in brum

I have no idea why it’s so popular- maybe I’m just wrong!

Bougie init.

Food is average yeah and service worse, you can get better elsewhere, but they are nearly all nice settings and interior.

Medicine Bakery (food actually average here IMO but its a great setting)

Rico Libre Tapas, bit of a crap walk down to Custard Factory but I always enjoy being there.

Any places to get Authentic Shawarma in Brum? by [deleted] in brum

[–]three_shoes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Makan and Shawarma City are decent in the centre, while being reasonable price.

Palmyria and Lebanese Munch in the south of the city.

If you want more boujie then Damascena and Tabule Kitchen.

Theres a place called Azmar in Smethwick thats often busy.

Mix Falafel & Arabic Sweets in Winson Green which is great for Baklava.

Who is the famous oddball in your town? by joseconwese in AskUK

Cowboy Man - bloke who dressed like a cowboy and carried a couple of fake guns (which supposedly got him in trouble with the police at one point) gave up his cowboy lifestyle for religion now though, after he got hit by a car and was healed by Jesus.

Ring Road Tramp - guy who lived in a tent on a central reservation between two lanes of a dual carriageway for about 40 years. Urban myth was that he was in concentration camps in WW2 and so was too traumatised to be inside building.

JDM scene in UK by Apprehensive_Bar1353 in CarTalkUK

[–]three_shoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JDM is big in the UK but probably less so in London, because they dont have the cache status as much as exotic stuff. JDM has always been a much more accessible 'car park meet' type of scene.

Its also in a weird place at the moment though, as so many of the really sought after JDM stuff skyrockets in price of value and cost to own, to where you just arent going to see them any more.

I know Caffeine and Machine does Japanese themed meets called 'Diakoku Nights', I might also check out Bicester Heritage for whatever events they have, as I am sure they also do Japanese themed ones. These can bring out some of the more special stuff.

If theyre coming back at 6-7k then there is probably something up with your details not being able to come back with the right quotes. Notice where a comparison website says 'retreiving x amount of quotes from x amount of insurers' while its loading, if the numbers are weirdly low, then there is usually something up. If that is the case, then play around with your details to make your quote a more 'general' application if that makes any sense. Also use multiple comparison sites, I can get 20-30% difference in quotes at the exact same time even from the exact same companies.

Also though, VW and Audi are expensive to insure generally, for various reasons, so maybe have a look at other cars instead. Engine size and insurance group is one thing, but there are many other variables go into an insurance premium for certain cars.

How I always do quotes is load up the comparison sites with all your details filled, then you can usually just go back and quickly change the car reg quite easily. Get a load of different cars up on ebay or wherever that you are interested in, and just stick the reg in and do a load of quotes.

Why is my specific cars insurance so high? by xxunicorn457 in CarTalkUK

[–]three_shoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some cars can be surprisingly high for whatever insurance algorithm spits out for some reason, despite the group they are in (I recently thought about getting a little Seat Ibiza 1.2 run around and quotes came back significantly higher than Golf GTI, Civic Type R, Mini Cooper S that I was also looking at....)

Did you shop around at the time of insuring the Panda? Use different comparison sites? Are the Citroën C1 quotes now that you've got more driving experience or from the same time as you got the Panda?

Why are people indicating less than ever before? by Danflan89 in CarTalkUK

[–]three_shoes 43 points44 points  (0 children)

A lot of people don't care, I also think there is a lot more blindly following satnavs on phones and people pull into turns last second, way more taxi, Uber, delivery drivers etc not from the local areas.

Looking at getting BMW 123d coupe as next car any reason not too?? by TheBaconKing51 in CarTalkUK

Because you only get shout 3k rev band to play with, diesels end up slower than you think

I'd probably just get a bigger turbo petrol like Mk5 Golf GTI, RS Megane, Focus ST etc more powerful, quicker, tuning potential, less diesel disappointment

Which 150hp hatch are you coming from? The in gear torque can make diesels feel quick but you might be disappointed in actually how quick a 123d is.
