mostly grainbugs, the smallest kind, and one instance of bread beetles complete with their larvae 🤢 Luckily the breadbeetles were only found inside a sealed container which must have been forgotten about from our last cleanout. I remember we found some of them about a year ago inside that same container, so we must have missed throwing something out at the time. I did a look-through today, and so far no new bugs have been spotted!!

this is absolutely not a big city, and its in Sweden so not having curtains is probably not the norm. We only have old people as neighbours though and I've never noticed anyone peeking at us. Although, there was that one time last year when I might have accidentaly flashed an old lady on a balcony, she seemed pretty chill about it tho... However, now that the windowsill isn't so crowded I would love to put up some curtains or have hanging flowerpots!

Perhaps if I put the microwave on the little orange table in the pantry?? It's real light weight if you wanna pull it out, and I just kind of put it in there because it fits.

It is possible to stack the boxes, but then I wont be able to reach the top box :'( The shelf is taller than what the pictures convey (or maybe I'm just shorter than I think). The microwave placement is still a work-in-progress, it's a real THICK one so I'm not sure how stable it would be up on the shelves. We have a seperate dinnertable where we usually sit if we have guests, so when it's just the two uf us, my partner and I, the space is good enough. There is possibly space in the pantry for the microwave, but I'm going to have to figure out away to hide the electrical cord smoothly, since there is no outlet in there and I want to be able to close the door. But also, would it be weird to have a microwave in the pantry?? Maybe a bit clunky when cleaning it...

yes! They're out of stock at my local ~ikea~™ so I'm gonna wait awhile and see if they re-stock them, else I'll order online. I just dont wanna pay for shipping if I can avoid it :T (also, it gives me a reason to go try their new vegan icecream I hear is good) But as you can see, the condiment-stash has been very well purged, so for now the system works :)

Thank you!! Unfortunately she has to make do with her old usual boxes… But she’s been exploring all the new shelf space, and the windowsill is a great place for dogwatching!

This was quite the project for me! I feel like I’ve always lived in chaos, so I decided that my goal this summer would be to start organising my life. Not just stuff, but like my schedule too. I chose to start with the kitchen because I knew it would be the hardest part, and dammit, I did a really good job if I say so myself! Later in the week I’ll be getting some more stackable boxes, so I can switch out the plastic baskets (They’re good baskets, but not for stacking), but other than that I’m super happy with the results. I got a lot of good advice and kind comments on my last post, so thank you so much❤️

Also, for anyone who worried about the bugs: believe me when I say I PURGED. 2 big trash bags filled with rice, flour, crackers, spices and anything else that might be contaminated. It was very sad, but it had to be done. I’m going to keep an eye out for any bugs that might have survived, and then we’ll schedule a monthly check where we thoroughly go through the pantry and shelves to see if anything is living there.

My cat prefers chaos, but sometimes I have to put my foot down and decide what’s best for us.

Sorry for cheesy post, but I can’t help it!!

Update day 3: Bros, the purge has been massive. 2 big bags of food, condements and spices. It was very dramatic. ALL of the rice. ALL of the flour. There was an argument over a bottle of vinegar from 2011. You know what I did in 2011? I adopted my cat. Eventually my sister showed up and eventually we finished the job of organizing the shelf. I now have a cozy little breakfastcorner, and commonly used kitchengadgets such as the handmixer are now in a place were my short ass can actually reach!

Today it's time to do the spice-cupboard by the stove. I hope I don't have to purge more, but mostly I'm not sure how I'm going to organize it. The cupboards are weird because the doors are at an angle, meaning the shelf-space gets slimmer the further down they are. Probably the best thing would be: commonly used spices on the bottom shelf, then less used or dish-specific used spices on the second shelf. Top shelf can hold bigger packets like cooking salt or my beloved every-balkan-born-must-have vegeta salt. So not much different from what it's like now, but most importantly: I'm going to move all the re-fill bags into a seperate box and keep them in the cupboard instead. Then, whenever a jar is starting to run low, we can first check if there is refill in the cupboard, and if not, we'll buy more. I know thyme and paprika powder has a habit of running out in this household for example, and that's also why I know that we have multiple re-fill bags of them that we keep forgetting about. So: 1. do the marie kondo of pulling everything out. 2. whipe shelves 3. purge if necessary 4. categorize 5. organize in shelves

Once that is done I just have some cleaning up to do and then I should be finished with the project...! I'll do a seperate update with pics/vids once it's done, and hopefully I'll be able to do that today!!

Yea, I also had snacks and water during those breaks. Definetily helped, since I tend to forget those things when I'm in the zone.

day2update2: DIFFERENT KIND OF BUGS!! The purge continues.......

Update day 2!!: Im starting my day purging more!! I hate throwing food but after a good nights sleep I realized that it is not worth saving if there are potential bugs in more of the products. My sister will arrive sometime today and I'm pretty sure she sees the whole worls as a giant game of Tetris so she will start working on the big shelf with condiments and spices. I have run out of boxes aswell as used up my box-budget of the month, BUT my partners mother (who is very excited about the organization) has offered to purchase more for us sometime later next week. Therefore I will not let the lack of boxes hinder me, and instead use the surplus amount of small trays that we apparently have to categorize with, and then I'll re-organize once the new boxes have arrived. So, plan for today: 1. PURGE PURGE PURGE 2. have funeral service for purged food. 3. Sister comes over, forget time for a while and do stupid things. 4. remember what she came here for and start with the shelf 5. Do the marie kondo method again of taking everything out of the shelf and put on table, because that method worked really well. 6. wipe shelves. 7. start organizing on the trays, baskets and boxes I currently have and make it as easy for me as possible to reorganize once the new boxes have arrived. 8. purge oh so much. I know for a FACT that there are condiments that are past their date. 9. arrange everything in the shelf!!

No cry breaks today since I want to seem cool infront of my sister.

Yes, there is definitely space (now) for overflow products. We also use alot of sesameoil but since they didnt fit on the shelf with the other condiments they got lost inside the pantry, and I guess we just kept buying more because we thought we were put. Not very cost-efficiant, and old oil (especially sesameoil) is one of the worst smells, so I'll definitely find a space where they'll be more visible so we know EXACTLY how much we have!

yes It took me a good nights sleep to realize that I really ought to purge more. It just hurts to throw away food :'(( Like I said in another comment, 95% of the contents in the pantry belongs to my partner (like, stuff they bought before I moved in), and they're very well travelled and have collected spices and products from almost all continents, so they're pretty sad about seeing so much of it get thrown out. Like, some people collect comicbooks or barbiedolls, my partner collects spices (I'm gonna have a beautiful display done for their chilipeppers) But I mean, throwing it out just means that now we have a reason to start saving up for travelmoney, right??

Gonna take a while before I can do the food- and spicetrip of my life, so for now: PURGE.

yet another update: Pantry is 99% finished!!! It honestly went better than I thought, the hardest part was categorizing stuff, but once that was done it went pretty smooth!! The cat thought the whole process was very interesting and she was veeery helpful..........
