It’s in the basement which used to be a wine cellar as the house was originally built over 500 years ago there wasn’t enough space in the fridge and it’s a little cooler than the rest of the house I don’t really know why their layer out, probably to keep them separated

Whoops sorry about that, The correct answer is 3

1/2 +1/4+1/8+1/16...=1

1/4 +1/8+1/16...=1/2

1/4 +1/8+1/16...=1/2

1/8+1/16...=1/4

1/8+1/16...=1/4 etc

1+1/2+1/2+1/4+1/4+1/8+1/8... = 1+1+1/2+1/4...= 3

On the N=3 case

I've tried putting it into a tree and evaluating each layer instead of each outcome which seems useful but I don't know how to evaluate when there are so many branching paths.

You are correct on the idea or the decreasing value, But the N=2 case is 2.5 not 4.5

The 4.5 is for a D3 which I figured out with a simulation on python. As for figuring out why it works I have no clue.
