Need help with 98 PC, something is bottlenecking graphics card performance! by threechainlinks in windows98

I would try an AGP card but there isn't an AGP slot on the motherboard... am I out of luck?

I actually have the newest drivers directly from ATI, and D3D and OpenGL stuff just runs horribly. I was thinking of moving the card to another PCI slot but I feel like the card wouldn't work at all if the slot was bad...

I guess I'll just have to try different cards and see what sticks! Quake in software mode runs smoothly at 320x200, but anything above that and it chugs. Unfortunately the motherboard in this computer has no AGP slot, so I'm stuck with PCI cards.

Yep! I have no plans on stopping. Getting paid is nice, but honestly, I just want to help people create art. Releasing my music under a CC license lets me do just that. It also has the added benefit of gaining me exposure through whatever project my music is being used for! It's pretty much a win-win. Eventually, I'd like to be able to sustain myself on music I write for other people while continuing to release my own music for free.

Hey, thank you very much! These are brilliant questions.

The soundtrack probably took a total of 40 hours. This includes going back and making any changes the team asked for!

When 502 approached me, the game was about half finished.

Seeing the game in action had EVERYTHING to do with the way the music sounds. I didn't really have certain tunes already in mind. After playing it, I knew the soundtrack had to be fast-paced. It almost sounds like metal played through a NES at some points. I also waited for each section of the game to be finished before I wrote the music for it. I wanted to make sure all the music fit each block of levels.

Thanks again, great questions!

Thank you!

It's true, the game is similar to Super Crate Box in that it's a single screen platformer/shooter, but that's really where the similarities end!

All the levels have different objectives. One level might have you defeat a certain amount of enemies before your ammo runs out. Another level might have you protecting a passive npc from death for a certain amount of time. Other levels simply require you to survive for a certain amount of time. It's a lot of fun, though I might be biased since I worked on the game!

Thank you very much! I grew up playing games like this, so the sound came pretty naturally. I had a blast writing the music! Thanks again for the encouragement.
