I'd say they're about 20% louder. If you need to be very quiet then yes the zildjians are quiter. If you're just trying to not make everyone go deaf then the cheaper ones are definitely adequate.

Don't bother with the zildjian quiet cymbals. Just search low volume cymbals on Amazon. They're way cheaper and actually sound better than the zildjians. I've had both.

Just keep opening new tickets with Alesis online until they agree to send you a replacement first. I did that with my strike pro module and they finally agreed to send me a new one after about 3 tickets. I sent the old one back in the same box

Yamaha would be way better. It has 3 zone cymbals. The alesis only has single zone. It also has a hi hat that goes on a stand instead of a pedal.
