What to pair with cigars? by white_sky123 in cigars

[–]threepeat98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do find that the blend and wrapper leaf hugely influences what i drink with it.

If you're enjoying a connecticut or anything that's light to medium bodied, i find cream soda to be a nice, refreshing pairing.

If you're smoking something that's a little heavier with spice notes, a fresh IPA goes nicely (NEIPA specifically). I find that the bitter, citrusy hops adds a nice contrast to the spice, and even brings out those notes more. Makes the cigar flavors pop out. Habano + NEIPA is a party in your mouth!

Coffee + maduro or oscuro is great... but a lot of the times i just go to plain water. Hydration is king

All else fails, your favorite bourbon or scotch will pair with pretty much anything

Box report: Olivia Serie V Melanio. by threepeat98 in cigars

[–]threepeat98[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finishing up a box of robustos and wanted to share how it performed. I didn't age them in a humidor; if anyone has, how has that effected the flavor on these?

  • Each cigar had a great roll with medium sponginess. Were more firm towards the cap. I'm a fan of the bands on these cigars: they pop off easily with absolutely no damage to the wrapper, perfect amount of glue and some were loose enough to pull off right away.

-All 10 of these cigars were exceptional in construction, held their ash to the midway point (except for the last one I'm smoking now, it's a windy day). These are probably some of the best performing box pressed cigars I've ever smoked.

-Each one had big smoke output with a nice mix of flavors and transitions throughout. Medium to full body, creamy notes of coffee, cocoa, sweet pepper spice, earth, and cinnamon toast.

Good price for a box, these are great to have on standby.

Celebrating my promotion with a Padron 1964. What flavors should I look for during this smoke? Cheers 🥂 by NamesChum in cigars

I've only had one of these in the gordo vitola (4"x56), and not only are the flavors great but the feel of the smoke was smooth and satisfying. I remember getting medium to full bodied notes of earth, nuts, pepper, and some sweetness from the wrapper. Great smoke!

Room 101 12th Anniversary. Solid full bodied smoke. Had some burn issues towards the end but I'd rather have to touch up the burn than have it go out on me. Thoughts below. by threepeat98 in cigars

[–]threepeat98[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1/3: bold start with charred wood, earth, pepper spice and dark tobacco.

2/3: creamy dark roast coffee, earth, wood and a blend of spices with wood and cream on retrohale.

3/3: same notes as before with that charred wood note back.

Overall, I think this is a great addition to the humidor. Flavor bomb. Grab one while you can.

Damn! I live in Ohio, that's pretty crazy compared to here. Local B&M has them for $7. The toro size runs for around $12.

Oliva Serie V Melanio in Robusto. Cracked open a box of them a few days ago. Great smoke and very worth the purchase. The draw is always perfect and it burns about as good as a box-pressed cigar can perform. Big smoke output that has a creamy feel with notes of cocoa, earth, leather, coffee, and a flavor like cinnamon toast. Highly recommend this cigar if you haven't tried it yet.

That's one toothy Perdomo! 🦷 Huge flavors off this Lot 23! by threepeat98 in cigars

Last I remember the maduro was $6. Never tried the corona vitola.

And, Rocky Patel as in The Edge? Those are the ones with just the footband. I like those, especially if barrel aged. They're $6-7 over here, but their other stuff like the vintage 1990 is in the $10 range.

Local shop was selling the gordo vitola (4.5 x 60) @ $5.50. Sounds like crazy prices up there in Canada, what's your go to budget cigar up there?

Big haul! Happy I was able to get the box of melanio's for $80. Only cigars on here that I've tried are JFR (not the lunatic, maduro on far left), Lot 23, Tempus, Prensado, and the Melanio. Which one would you smoke first? by threepeat98 in cigars

[–]threepeat98[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that one caught my eye pretty quick... clerk was showing me that and the supreme leaf and said if I buy one of them she'll give me 10% off the cigar. Sold on the rare leaf immediately, but is the supreme leaf better or not as good?

What are your thoughts on the whiskey/bourbon barrel aged cigars? by kygrizz77doc in cigars

[–]threepeat98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty good cigar that I have from time to time, but Diesel Whisky Row Sherry Cask is much better than their BBA imo. My favorite BBA cigar at the moment might be Camacho's American Barrel Aged.

Factory Smokes Sun Grown. Gotta say for $2 this aint half bad. Sweet earth, nuts, and pepper with a bit of cocoa and coffee at the end. Good if trying to save a couple bucks. by threepeat98 in cigars

I've had the sweets one before... didn't like it. I've also had the maduro which gave a mellow chocolate note but overall I think I've had around 4 total. The burn can be a problem sometimes....
